The orchard is situated close to the lake and has a beautiful view of the castle at the front, but is far more secluded in the far reaches. The orchard is a wide spread of land, with row upon row of fruitbearing trees and is a good place to wander in contemplation. The trees aren't a particularly arduous climb, with low lying branches and wide boughs. Also, If you're in want of a snack, then delicious fruit can usually be found here. At sunset, this is a particularly romantic place.

Jessai stood at the side of the palace. She had come by here to try and avoid people. She wasn't ready to meet anyone just yet, and she needed a while to think over what she had just done. Never in her life had she spent a night away from home and yet here she was alone.
Nobody seemed to have noticed her come down the side of the palace, and she breathed a sigh of relief. It was late afternoon and the sun was warm. She walked into the orchard and sat below a shady apple tree. She began to think about home and her father. Part of her was glad to be here and part of her wanted to turn around and go back home. But that just wasnt an option. She put her head in her hands and let the tears roll freely, wondering where Fin had gone to. She wasnt afraid of him.

Nelra burst through the trees at a run at the far end of the orchard. Looking back she saw no sign of Drakan. She didn't think she'd run that fast, but then she had had a head start, and Drakan may not have even been running. She sat herself down at the base of the closest tree, clutching the stich in her side.
"Either I'm not in as good a shape as I thought I was, or that was a really long run." she muttered to herself. She looked back through the trees, wondering how far behind her Drakan was.

Drakan had run most of the way, but he knew he would never have caught up with Nelra-She had had a head start! So when he neared the edge of the trees, he had slowed right down and was now standing just behind Nelra, out of sight.
Suddenly he burst from his hiding place with a yell. He had been stung by some type of insect. On his way out of the trees, he had tripped on a root and gone head first into a thorn bush. He poked his head out and looked at Nelra, with a look of the upmost sadness on his face. "Ouuuch. Why am i so clumsy?"

Nelra peered through the trees. She didn't think she had been that far ahead of Drakan, so where was he? Perhaps he's hiding she thought. She was about to get up and search for him, when a yell came from behind her. She leapt to her feet searching for the culprit.
A voice from near the ground caught her attention. She looked down to find Drakan in a thorn bush, of all places. She couldn't help but smile a little, though she kept herself from laughing. He did look rather funny, being stuck in a thorn bush. But she didn't think it would do to go laughing at his misfortune.
"Pure bad luck?" she suggested in answer to his question. She stuck out a hand, offering to help him out of the bush.

Drakan was in a little pain but as he saw the corners of Nelra's lips twitch into a slight smile, he started to laugh. He took her hand and soon was standing back up picking thorns from his messy hair. "It's nice here" he said smiling "...Apart from that bush...Youre a really fast sprinter" he added with admiration "Training?" He was referring to the army and he felt sure that Nelra must be part of it. She seemed confident and strong willed, but those were just his first impressions.

Nelra laughed, it seemed Drakan was quite able to laugh at himself. She didn't think she'd be laughing if it had been her in that bush. "Thanks. Training...yes, training. I just started in the Dragonrider's recently. So I've been running a lot to build up my stamina and endurance. And apparantly it's starting to show." She grinned and started walking off backwards through the trees, so she could still see Drakan.
"Are you in the army?" she asked, curious. She didn't know much about anybody here, besides some names, so she certainly didn't know who was in the army and who wasn't.

"Yes...well i completed my elite training a while back now..." Drakan sighed "So you have a dragon too? I dont like dragons..." His smile faded sightly and a sorrowful look replaced it. He showed Nelra the scar on his hand where Scarlets dragon had bit him. "I guess they just dont like me much!" his grin returned.
"Where are you going?" He asked curiously. Nelra had got quite deep into the trees already and Drakan half jogged to catch up with her. He liked Nelra. He could talk to her and she was fun too. It wasnt just her looks that Drakan found appealing, but her personality and sense of humour too.

"Your elite training? Wow, that's a really big accomplishment." Nelra said, a little awed, after all it's not every day you come across an elite anything. "Storm's a pretty friendly dragon..but then she's only been around me..." She hissed in sympathy when she saw Drakan's scar. She wondered what he'd done to anger that particular dragon.
Drakan's next question caused Nelra to stop for a minute. "Well...I really don't know where I'm going. It's much more fun when you have no idea where you're headed!" She grinned and resumed her backwards walking, still not paying any more attention to where she was headed than she had been before.

"Just be careful!" he grinned. "I should probably watch where I'm going" he continued to follow Nelra through the trees, calling out to her every now and again if she was going to collide with something.
"Do you like it here?" He asked, absent mindedly picking a blackberry from a bush as he passed. "I think its great. Theres so many people here, and everyone seems to get along." He sighed. "Not like at home..." He frowned slightly, before picking another blackberry and asking Nelra if she had lived in Arinesse all her life?

"Of course I'll be careful...or relatively careful anyway." she laughed. She figured it was probably a good thing Drakan at least was watching where they were going, otherwise she'd likely end up getting lost, or at the very least run into countless things.
"I like it here a lot. Much better than before, nobody's here to tell me what I can and can't do. No I haven't lived here all my life. I...erm...ran away from home. My parents didn't want me to leave, they said I was too young to be out on my own." She fell silent for a few moments, frowning. "But I'm doing just fine so far!" she said with a big grin.
"What was it like at your home, that not everyone got along?" She stopped to grab a handful of berries, then looked at Drakan, wondering if he'd actually talk about it to someone he didn't know very well.

Drakan stopped walking for few seconds, while he thought of a way to explain things.
"All elves are supposed to posess magic. but i didnt" he said bluntly. But then something inside him forced him to go on. To tell Nelra all about the treatment he had recieved since he was 5 years old and his dad had died.
"It was like exile. None of the children would play with me, I was bullied. People kept away from me. Just because i was different." His face showed the pain he had gone through and dspite his efforts, he couldnt hide it.

Nelra almost gasped when she heard what Drakan had gone through. She couldn't even begin to imagine what that must have been like for him.
"You were practically exiled for something you had no control over? That's not right! And not all elves have magic, there's been others who have been magicless. I bet they weren't treated like you were...." she trailed off.
"How did you live with that?" she asked, then added a couple seconds later, "Is it because of that, that you came here?"

Drakan nodded slowly.
"I hated it there. My father...When he was alive i was treated differently, but then..." Drakan was surprised Nelra was so understanding. He had thought she might treat him differently once she knew. Afterall she was an elf aswell.
"Have their been others? I didnt know that. I was led to believe i was unusual, weird...and the only one." Drakan was beginning to feel a little better about his lack of magic. Although he rarely showed it, he had always felt inadequate when around other elves but Nelra had not made him feel so. "Thanks" he added and walked a few paces, leaving Nelra to wonder what he had meant.

Nelra stared after Drakan as he moved off a few paces. How could he not have known that not all elves had magic. She'd known for as long as she could remember, and had just assumed that everyone knew. She didn't really see anything wrong about not having magic, though she was probably one of the only elves who thought that.
Thanks? she thought, I didn't do anything to be thanked for, did I? She stood there for a few minutes, trying to figure it out, a confused look on her face. Finally she shook her head, she'd figure it out some other time.
