Drakan glanced around his newly purchased hut. It was homely but small. In one corner he had a small kitchen and in the opposite corner, a small bed. The middle of his hut was largely occupied by a small table and two comfy armchairs. He sank into one, glad to finally be able to save his money and not spend it on rooms at the inn. Within minutes he was sound asleep.

Trysten had been walking through the suburbs of Arinesse, when he noticed that one of the huts that had been unoccupied a day or two before now looked to be inhabited. Not everyone would have spotted it, but he saw the tell-tale signs; the fresh boot prints around the front door, and the way the lock had been cleared of the mossy covering that had been there previously. Trysten decided he would practice his newly developed stealth skills. He knew that not everyone liked to have a trainee spy trying out their abilities on their huts, but with any luck he would get in and out without anyone even noticing. After all, from the sounds coming from the hut, the occupant appeared to be asleep.
He crept around the otherside where there were no windows, and managed to pull himself up onto the roof, glad of the pressups he had been doing recently, as he used his arms to pull his weight up. It would have been much easier if the roof had been completely flat, but he managed to hold on as he made his way over to the side where one of the windows was. Lowering himself down by holding onto the window frame, Trysten entered the hut head first. As he got low enough he put his feet on the sill and silently dropped in. He knew that he could have just climbed in through the window, but where would the challenge be? Climbing across the roof was much more fulfilling. He looked around the room he now found himself crouched in. He saw that person he expected to be asleep in the middle of the room was someone he already new. He slowly and silently began to move across the room... it was all going perfectly until;
"DAMMIT!" Trysten yelled, hopping on one leg and clutching his right foot. He turned around to find the cause of his injury. On the floor behind him was a fork with the prongs pointing upright. He had stood onto it with all of his weight and had been stabbed through his soft leather boots. He cursed himself for not paying more attention and span round, wondering if Drakan would wake up.

Drakan woke up with a snort. He looked around the room but couldnt see anything out of the ordinary. He turned back round and closed his eyes. All of a sudden his eyes shot open again. Breathing. He could hear breathing. Standing up he looked behind him. No one. Then carefully and slowly he crept over to the kitchen area. On the floor, in a crouch was Tysten, a man he had met a week or so ago. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY HUT!" Drakan stood there with his hands on his head, unsure what to do. He was staming his feet and his face had turned a colour that matched his friend Scarlet's name. "Out! OUT!"
He hadnt liked Trysten when they had first met, but had slowly decided that maybe he could be trusted. Now however that had been thrown out the window and Drakan just wanted him gone.

Trysten held his arms up in defense. He winced as he put his recently stabbed foot on the ground.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" he yelled defensively. It was NOT supposed to have turned out this way, and he was sure Drakan wouldn't believe any excuse he could give. But he did need to give one. Drakan was giving him a menacing look.
"Look! I was walking past, and noticed through the window that you were asleep in the chair, and I figured that this must be your new hut- it's very nice by the way, very homely-" he could see that flattery really wasn't going to help him so he continued. "Anyway, I knocked on the door so that I could come say hi, but you didn't hear me. Then- for a reason that I really should be able to remember- I decided to climb through the window to wake you up and say hello..."
He trailed off waiting for Drakan's reaction. He wasn't used to having to talk so much, but when it was needed he found it came easier than expected.
"I would have brought you a house warming gift if I'd planned better," he added, hoping that he seemed sincere.

Drakan was confused, and it showed. His face was twisted into a half-puzzled, half-shocked picture. He wasnt sure whether he should trust Trysten, but he decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. Plus he was far too tired to try and understand what Trysten had just said.
Finally he spoke "Oh...well i guess you didnt exactly do anything. You didnt harm me although..." He looked down at Trystens foot as a bead of blood trickled down to his heel. "Maybe we should put a bandage around that? Theres some in the cuboard there if you think you need one?"
Drakan smiled. That was one of his best qualities, he could easily forgive and forget.

Trysten breathed a sigh of relief. He hadn't really intended to break into Drakan's hut, but had always had a hard time resisting a challenge. But inevitably it had ended badly and now Trysten had three bleeding fork marks on his heel.
He lifted it up to look, and decided that while it wasn't a serious injury- and would probably heal in a day or two- bleeding on Drakan's floor would not be such a good idea.
"I think a bandage would probably be best, thanks," he said to Drakan, trying to stop the blood from trickling onto the floor. He leaned against the wall as Drakan went to get the bandages from the cupboard.
"I am sorry about startling you. I really should have just knocked on the door a bit louder..." Trysten felt guilty at having been caught out. He knew that he should have thought a bit more before climbing into the hut.

"Ah, no worries" Drakan replied. He grabbed a bandage and passed it to Trysten. "Cup of tea?" he asked, ushering Trysten into a chair. "So how are you finding Erivale?" He hadnt waited for a reply about the tea. He thought about his impressions of Trysten. At first he had thought he was sly and untrustworthy, but on second thoughts had realised that maybe he was just shy. Drakan himself knew how people could force you to be distrusting and it seemed that maybe this had happened to Trysten. He pushed the cup of tea into Trysten's hands and sat down smiing.

Trysten felt a wave of confusion wash over him. He had not expected Drakan to be so welcoming, but he realised that the elf had a very forgiving nature. Trysten felt slightly envious of this. He always had a hard time dropping grudges. He sat in the chair trying to figure out what had just happened, and then realised that he still had the bandages clasped in his left hand. He placed his cup of tea on the floor and began to take off his boot to bandage his foot. While he did so he answered Drakan's question.
"Well, the people are a lot more friendly than I'd expected," he began, as he wrapped the bandage around the prong marks on his foot. "I think I've met more new people in the past few days than I had in all the time I spent out of Erivale."
Satisfied with the bandage, he slipped his boot back on and picked up his tea.
"What about you?" he asked. "Now that you've got your own place I guess you must be pretty settled here."

Drakan nodded in agreement. He did feel pretty settled here. Before had left his home, he had been ignored by almost all of his village. Nobody could accept that he didnt have magic ability. Here however you were seen as so much more.
"I have made some pretty good friends" He smiled thinking of Carmen. This shocked even himself Carmen he asked himselfBut it was Scarlet I kissed He sighed in confusion.
"More tea?"

Trysten nodded and Drakan refilled his cup. He'd noticed Drakan sigh after mentioning his new friends, and wondered if Drakan had being having some problems. But he wasn't about to ask. Trysten wasn't one for prying into other people's business. In fact, he never normally had conversations with people he hardly knew, so he was slightly surprised when he realised that that was what he was doing. He took another gulp of tea as he thought a bit about Drakan. He'd seen him in the army training grounds a couple of times, and wondered how far he'd got.
"Which Division of the army are you in?" he asked, wondering if he too was training to be a Dragon Rider like a lot of the other people in the army seemed to be.

"I'm in the Swordsmen division" He said and then added, with an air of pride "And im just waiting to be approved as an elite" He grinned. It felt so good to be able to say that. He knew his father would be proud of him.
"Is it just me?" He asked "Or is everyone around here becoming a dragon rider?" He looked down at his hand and then back to Trysten "I hate dragons..."

Trysten looked at the bite mark on Drakan's hand and smiled slightly. He'd never really had a problem with dragons, but he wasn't like the people he'd met who made it their life's ambition to own one.
"I think everyone I've asked about the Army has said they want to be a Dragon Rider. I know that Erivale's army has a strong Dragon Rider's Division but I didn't really expect this many people to want to be one." He paused while he thought about being a spy. "Sometimes it seems like I'm the only person in the Spies Division, there are so few."
He drunk the last of the tea and placed the cup on the floor. Drakan had said that he was soon to become an Elite Swordsman. He hoped that he could also reach the rank of Elite soon, but he needed to continue his training.

Drakan looked at Trysten thoughtfully. Spy.. He thought Yes, i think that suits him
Drakan stood up from his seat and bustled about trying to clear up the tea. On finishing he asked Trysten how his foot was feeling. "I'm not sure if there is any sort of medical establishment around here" He shrugged. He had been to the busiest places in Erivale but there was still so much more to explore, he explained this to Trysten. "We shall have to travel together sometime!" He said excitedly. Pehaps too excitedly, for Drakan believed he had shocked his new friend.

Trysten eyed Drakan in slight disbelief. Less than an hour ago, the elf had been trying to throw him out of his home, and now he was getting excited about exploring Erivale together. Trysten was sure that he had never met anyone like Drakan before; he was just so quick to change. Trysten thought a bit more and decided that he admired Drakan for it; he spent far too much time dwelling on things, and thought could learn a lot from Drakan's attitude to things.
He snapped out of his train of thought, and realised that Drakan had asked him about his foot.
"It feels better now, thanks," he told him, with his usual half smile. "And I think travelling together sounds like a good idea; it's always more fun with someone else."
He stood up and wandered closer to the door.
"Well, I guess I should be going, now that I've drunk most of your tea," he said.

Time had flown by with Drakan barely noticing. It seemed an age ago when Trysten had arrived. All bad feelings had been forgotten and Drakan had decided to become firm friends with Trysten. Waving goodbye to his new pal he closed the door and looked around his hut. It was beinning to get dark and he had been inside all day. "I think i might go for a walk..." He muttered to himself and grabbed a cloak from a hook by the door. He crept out into the dusky street and headed toward the city.
