The Lava Caves were formed over the years by the continuing eruptions of the volcano. The walls are made of a dark glittering rock and large stalactites and stalagmites protrude from the ceiling and floors. Precious gems can be found in the Lava Caves sprouting like like frozen flowers, but beware. These caves are the home to the wild dragons on the island (see 'Information and Guidelines' for more information on the wild dragons'), the dragons are not tame and guard the gems jealously. It is highly recommended NOT to visit the lava caves unless you are a rider, or with another dragon.

Silent footsteps echoed through the caves, like raindrops splashing down on a cold, smooth surface. He was good at being silent, it was a skill one must learn to be a effective hunter. And he was much more then just "effective". However now was one of the few times, he was in fact not hunting, there was something important he wished to discuss. All of his Brothers were asleep, and this time, no matter how silent he tried to be, quiet a few handful of them open an eye to watch him as he ran past them. All of his Brothers could sense him easily, they said that his stench gave him away.
He didn't know why, but not only did he look different from his Brothers, but he smells different from them too. He was always told that he was disfigured at birth, but now he was begining to wonder if that was true.
Aw, there he is! He thought happily.
Unlike his other Brothers, Brandion was already awake. Whether it was from his stench, or that last thought, he doubted that he would ever know. Bradion was a huge dragon, bright yellow in color, with exotic stripes running down his spine. He had sharp claws that could break trees into splinters, and livid red eyes.
As intiminating as it sounds, Jakien wasn't even slightly scared. In fact he looked at the dragon fondly. He and Brandion shared a special bond, out of all of his Brothers, Brandion was the only one who shared his thoughts, emotions, and memories through a mental link they share.
Brother, is there a reason you decided to wake me up so early?
Jakien smirked, just like Brandion to complain, There is, there is something I must show you.
Let it wait, I'm going back to sleep. Brandion yawned as if add extra effect, a dragon's yawn is very similiar to its roar, so Jakien had to cover his ears before he could reply.
But its really important! It involves a human!
That certaintly caught his attention, the huge dragon jumped up, belowing in its loud voice, "Humans!!! Where? I'll kill it! I swear I will!!" The walls themselves were shaking, and more then a couple of their Brothers were now fully awake, and equally angry.
Not wanting to upset him any longer, Jakien soothingly said, "Calm down Brother, he was long dead when I found him." He said in Dragon Tongue, "You must come with me, there was something strange in the wreakage."
Calmed now, Brandion eyed the boy wearily. After a long time of silence, he finally agreed. "Very well, climb on my back." Jakien blushed at that thought. One of the worst things about his disfiguration, was that he had no wings, so Brandion had made it a habit to fly him around. It was something that he did not enjoy, but did anyways.
A short while later they were both in the air. When Brandion asked where the body was, he replied that he found it on the beach while he was hunting earlier today "It was very strange," Jakien told him, "The human looked just like me! Do you think he was disfigured too?"
Brandion did not reply.
They were high in the air above the shoreline. However Jakien did not want them to land, for he had often heard that humans land their ships on this beach. He has stayed away from humans his entire life, the corpse he found was the first one he ever saw.
From the air, he could spot the broken from of the ship. He had found the shipwreak earlier, and couldn't help but explore it. It was then that he had found the human's corpse. It was not the corspe that intruiqued him, but the artifacts that he held in his ship.
Now he walked through the hollows of the ship once more. Looking at the vast amounts of unique and wonderous objects lining the walls. Windows, wooden walls, narrow hallways, beds, pillows, sheets, swords, arrows, and so much more. Ever thing a new experience for him.
And finally he reached the front of the ship, where the corpse laid there in its seat. He wore tattered clothing, ripped and shreded, the entire side of his face was covered with blood. But Jakien was use to that sort of thing, what caught his interest was the object he held in his hands.
He hadn't noticed it the last time he was here. Prying opent he fingers he held the object in his hands. It was a small silver sphere, with intricate designs weaving its way around it. And all along the surface of the object was strange symbols and letters. Unbenowths to him, Jakien was staring at letters that were not known to any in Erivale, a language foreign and mystical.
The sphere started to glow.
Shocked Jakien, dropped the sphere, but it did not fall. Instead it hovered in the air, its glow intenstifying by the second. Slowly he backed away, not wanting to be anywhere near the object. But the light still grew, covering the entire room, and even Brandion who was standing on the shore. With one last giant flash...he was gone.
Jakien had his first encounter with magic.
