Drakan could see the end of the road. He was glad he was close to Erivale, it had taken him days to get this far. He wondered if people here would accept him for who he was and not how much magic he posessed, he hoped they werent that shallow. I must remember to introduce myself when i arrive he thought First impressions are important! And with that Drakan pulled his bag over his shoulder and set off once more.

Scarlet galloped up the road, her hair streaming behind her. Her horse, a streamlined brown and white mare, named Ember, kicked up dust behind them. Ember had been a present from her parents, given to her before they died. She was a pretty elven horse, with a sweet temprement, and had been Scarlets firm friend since childhood. Scarlet pulled the reins tightly, drawing Ember to a halt as the city came into view. They would reach the gates in another five minutes.
Scarlet smiled, it had taken her only three days travelling to reach the human realms of Erivale, a feat to be proud of. She patted Embers neck, bent low over her head and whispered "Come on girl, not far now." Then returned to the upright position in her saddle. Without Scarlet even pulling on the reins, Ember built up from a trot, to a canter until they were galloping towards the city at full speed. Scarlet half smiled to herself. They were here.

Trysten had been walking for hours. The well-worn road seemed to stretch for miles, with no signs of ever coming to an end. He knew that the city of Arinesse was in front of him, but he never realised how long it would take him to reach it. Sighing to himself, he sat down on the roadside and looked to the horizon. He could make out the outline of the city in the distance, and knew that it would take him an hour or so to reach it. Sometimes he wished he owned a horse. Journeys would be so much faster if he did. But then he knew that he preferred walking alone. Having a horse made things like being stealthy difficult. And being stealthy was a necessity to Trysten. He took a swig of water from his bottle, and stood up. He slung his bag over his shoulder and began to start walking again, knowing that his next stop would be when he arrived in Arinesse.

Meredith's white cloak, draped over her shoulders, was flying in the gallop. She nudged her mare Raindrop on. It was imperative that she get to Arinesse quickly, for she missed her brother dearly, who waited at the capital for her.
The rain pounded hard onto the worn road, causing the road to be muddy. Raindrop was being careful, which caused her to be too slow for her master's taste. The rain slid off Meredith's waterproof cloak, so Meredith stayed dry. The cloak had been her mother's, and she had inherited it. Sure, it had cost her family a certain amount of money, but on rainy days when you needed to ride fast, it was quite worth it.
Meredith could see the walls of the city from a distance. A bit further now, girl, Meredith silently nudged Raindrop on. The gates were open, and she slowed down to a trot. She had entered Erivale and was now at her destination, Arinesse, the capital.

Felhlavine walked slowly along the roadside, her bare feet bleeding slightly from the stoney surface. Her mother's old pony Lister was not up to constant travelling at high speed, so Felhlavine rested her like this often, letting him follow at her shoulder. However, as the walls of Arinesse appeared on the hazy horizon, Felhlavine's heart lept, and she mounted Lister once again, urging him on. She'd already seen enough to know that this land was what she'd been yearning for, and what better place to start living and exploring than in the finest city for miles around. The gate came closer and close, and with each stride Felhlavine's jubilant smile widened as she felt the satisfaction of a journey's conclusion.

Carmen galloped down the road. She wasn't being chased, but she knew she was in a new country. She saw something off in the distance. She stopped and lowered her hood. Then she saw it. Her long red hair blew in the wind and her green eyes sparkled with joy. There it is, she thought. The city of Arinesse. She dug her heels into Ginger's sides and yelled, "Ya!" And they road faster towards the city.

Post by Dimitri Ivanov on Aug 9, 2006 22:32:31 GMT
Dimitri stared off into the distance, where he could see the city walls of Arinesse rising up on the horizon. He glanced down at the down at the dust gathering on his dark red leather boots, sighed then silently thought back to what brought him here...
Dimitri scolfed down his last loaf of bread, the last edible thing in his satchel. His empty wallet lay at his side. A heavy breath escaped from his lips when he looked at it again. 'I'm gonna have to get some more money soon, otherwise I'll have nothing to buy supplies with.'. With that last thought Dimitri jumped up nimbly, grabbed his satchel and wallet, then jogged off towards the village's Inn. The Broken Drum was a popular establishment just outside of Erivale, mainly for its ale that was rumoured to be made out of some rock the dwarves found in their mountain. However no one had come up with a theory as to how they got the ale out of these rocks as of yet. It was to this Inn that Dimitri found himself running to. He skidded through the door and narrowly avoided sending a barmaid cartwheeling. He made his discreetly walked over to the 'WANTED' poster board. People who sold out other people's lives to make a profit weren't looked to kindly on in this part of the world. Dimitri scanned his eyes down the board until he found a name that interested him. 'Valros V, now that sounds like a monarch' he mused. He casually looked across to the price tag attached to the life of this man. '10,000 Gold Coins!!'. Dimitri was stunned for a moment, then wondered what a man could of done to be worth this much in death. He then saw who had issued this hefty bounty. 'BY ORDER OF THE SHADOWLANDS' filled up the far right quadrant of the poster. 'That explains it' he grimaced. He didn't particularly relish the idea of working with such people but he had to get supplies somehow. Dimitri quickly ripped the poster off the board. The sudden sound caused the patrons of the Drum to turn. He glanced to his side to see the owner glaring icily at him from behind the bar. Deciding it probably wasn't a good idea to stick around he turned smartly on his heel and walked out the bar...
Dimitri almost jumped at the sight of the guard that had apparently appeared infront of him. He wondered how long he had been thinking of that moment in the Broken Drum. Shaking his head he silently approached the main gate.

Post by Finn Denys on Sept 18, 2006 17:48:48 GMT
Finn rode toward the gates of Arinesse on a small dapple grey horse, borrowed from his brothers farm. That, along with a small brown leather satchel containing a change of clothes, was all that he owned. He had been traveling for four days, making do with camping alongside the road or in deserted fields. Seeing Arinesse was a huge relief, he had run out of food that morning, his horse was tiring and his backside ached from riding for so long. The worn leather saddle he sat on offered no cushion to the relentless bouncing up and down, and now he was close enough, Finn decided it would be easier on both him and his horse if he walked it.
He slid down from the saddle, wincing as his stiffened muscles twinged in protest. He rolled his shoulders a couple of times to loosen up, then stretched his arms clasping them together above his head. His old grey horse took the opportunity to nibble some of the vegetation growing from the side of the road, and as Finn drained the dregs of his water-skin, he realized the horse must be thirsty too. It looked like the city stables would be his first stop.
"Nearly there old girl" he murmured, as he took the reins with one hand, and ran his fingers through his hair with the other. The horse nickered in protest as Finn urged her onward, towards the gates on the horizon.

Post by Jessai Kaela on Sept 18, 2006 19:41:52 GMT
Jessai was angry. Angry with her father, and angry with her brother. She had finally had enough of her father keeping her inside and alone for the past 17 years and after a row with her brother had run away. She was dirty and had barely enough food to last her another day and she still didnt have even the tiniest incling as to where she was going. Sighing heavily, and with tears of frustration, she sat down on the side of the road. She screamed out loudly as if to release some of her feelings, but surprisingly it didnt work. Her usually pristine white dress was now stained green and brown and the hem was torn slightly. It had been her mothers, and if she had noticed it she would have been even more upset.
Jessai decided she ought to keep moving, and stood up. Squinting her eyes in the direction she seemed to be going she spotted a figure, silhouetted against the evening sun. Without a second thought, she hitched up her skirts and ran as fast as she could. She had never been taught to ride a horse, due to her overprotective father, consequently, her time alone had come in useful for practising martial arts and keeping fit, and now she found that this fitnesss came in handy.
It didnt take long for Jessai to catch up with the stranger, and she realised as she grew closer that he rode a horse. She was only a few paces behind the man now and she skidded to a halt and gasped. She had only ever seen horses from a distance andin the books her governor had gven her. She reached out one hand as if to touch the grey animal, but it whinnied and frightened her away. Looking up at the man she smiled and said "Excuse me sir...But do you know where this road is headed?"

(err, I've kinda already posted by the lake- but no worries oh, and btw, I'm not actually on my horse!) Finn stopped to listen, thinking he heard a scream. When he couldn't hear anything else he shrugged Must have been a bird or something he thought and continued to lead his horse forwards. He had only taken a few more steps when he heard rapid footsteps approaching from behind him. He spun on the spot, expecting a crazed bandit to run up and attack him and couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as watched a girl running at full speed down the road. Stunned, he stood there in silence for a few moments, before her question registered. "Uh.. this road.." he stalled, "It leads to Arinesse... the capital city." He stopped and looked at the girl, her dress was torn and dirtied and she looked like she had been crying. "I would offer you a ride..." he said, "but my horse would probably collapse, " he half-smiled and added, "I'd offer to carry you but I'd probably collapse too...been traveling for days." He readjusted his pack on his shoulder while he waited for the girl to reply.

(ooc sorry i was tired when i posted that and i wasnt paying too much attention!)
Jessai listened wide eyed as the boy explained where the road led. She giggled as he spoke of collapsing and a smile crossed her face, transforming her."I'm not that heavy!" she added smiling sweetly. "I'm Jessai by the way". She tucked a few loose strands of dark hair behind her ear, which showed her dirt streaked face and shuffled her feet. "Can i walk with you? Are we nearly there?"

(OOC: No problem!)
"i didn't mean to say you were heavy!" Finn replied quickly, the tips of his ears turning red, "i mean, I'm sure you're very light but I just...." he decided to just cut his losses and shut his mouth. "I'm Finn." he replied, rubbing is the back of his neck shyly.
"Sure you can walk with me, the gate's only about a mile away, it won't be long now." they started walking down the road, "So, why are you heading to arinesse. I mean, why head somewhere if you don't even know where you're going?" he eyed her dress, "Were you chased or something?"

"I ran away" Jesai averted her gaze, as to stop her feeling more embarassed. After a few moments of silence she looked back up and spoke softly "My mother died when i was young" She explained briefly how protective her father had been. "I havent met anyone new in so long..." she spoke with a sense of awe in her voice.
Jessai felt Finns eyes looking her over and she looked down at herself, realising what a mess she looked. "Oh" she cried, those tears of frustration forming once more. "This is the only thing of my mothers i have left" she explained "And now its ruined!" She couldnt hold it in any longer. She hated crying but now was one of those times where it was impossible to keep it all inside. She held her head in her hands, heaving with sadness. "I'm sorry" she said and with a flick of her hair she began walking once more, smearing the tears and mud further across her cheeks.

Finn didn't quite know what to do when Jessai began crying, he'd never been in this sort of situation before. He patted her on the back awkwardly and tried to brush her hair away from her eyes in a brotherly fashion. this resulted in him accidentally poking her in the ear; he withdrew his hand quickly.
"I'm sure it will wash right out." he offered kindly, not that he knew the first thing about washing or cloth, or sentimental value come to think of it. "We'll be at the city soon anyway." he added. Then the realization of what he had just said hit him. The city. He didn't know what to expect from it. Farms and fields were all that he knew and as far as he had heard the city was a huge magical place, everyone rich and the streets paved with gold. He had passed the rumors off as fanciful lies, but as he approached the city gates with Jessai, he felt a twinge of apprehension when wondering what lay behind them.
