Liz rode down this rode hard and fast. She saw the city disappear behind her and the night grow in front of her. Anger pounded her hard into the night. She felt Patches getting tired, so she let the pace slow for a while. She used her small knowledge of magic to tell Patches it was alright. The horse snorted in reply. After a while of riding Liz saw the village appear through the tree. "Look Patches! Faydell," This made the horse quicken it's own pace. She smiled and rode on the Faydell. When they reached the village Liz smiled at the quaintness of it. She found the nearest Inn and tied Patches up in front. She then walked in to get a room.

Small clouds of dust rose behind Scarlet, as she rode Ember down the sheltered track. She allowed Ember to go as fast as she liked and only urged her onwards when she stopped to nibble patches of weeds on the roadside. Scarlet smiled as she remembered her meeting with Trysten down the road, and how she had ended up diving into the undergrowth. Not one of her best moments...
As she was cast into shadow, she looked up to see Meral, circling ahead and then dropping several feet to land beside her and begin to run alongside Ember. Any other horse would have bolted as the large dragon dropped out the air beside them, but Ember was used to Meral by now, and seeing as he wasn't interested in eating her- she had no interest in him.
Why are we heading to Faydell? Meral asked I remembered Lady Alianna mention something about a paddock down there, and I thought Ember would prefer staying there than at the stables. And this has nothing to do with your trying to avoid a certain Mr. Thrice? inquired Meral No! That had nothing to do with it, I just thought that... Scarlet stopped, cottoning on that Meral was just teasing her, and she had given him exactly the response he wanted.
Once we can fly together, it will be so much quicker to reach Faydell. I know Lady Alianna flies here on Garnet. she said, changing the subject.
Soon, Faydell came into view and Ember slowed her pace to a leisurely downhill trot to the village.

It had been some time since he departed from his father's estate, pretended to be bound for the nearest recruitment post. His father had driven him hard, precious years of childhood wasted with strategical training, combat training and weaponary training. He had never had a friend his whole life except his father, he had grown resentful of him though.
He walked down the path looking around to seeing a beutiful scenary, using his bow as a walking stick. He smiled and looked up absorbing the sun on his face, how long has it been since he could enjoy such a luxary. However, he came to notice something flying overhead, it was a dragon coming in for a landing. In a blink of an eye he strung a arrow on his bow and fired it at the dragon. Once again in an instant he strung another arrow on his bow, running now toward were it was landing firing again.
He then noticed a woman on a horse, immediately an instinct to protect kicked in. However, he sensed no fear from the woman. He strung another arrow on his bow pointing it at the dragon and called out to her
" Maiden it would be advisable to speed away from this beast while your able. I shall provide you cover and dispatch this vial creature."

The first arrow clattered harmlessly off of Meral's armour-like scales. The second was aimed more carefully and whistled through the air before piercing the soft membrane of his wing. Scarlet felt herself crying out in pain like it was her own arm that the arrow had hit. Meral growled, but Scarlet could tell he was more worried for her safety than his own.
In a flash Scarlet leapt from Ember's back and had drawn her own sword before her feet hit the ground. She advanced towards the elf as he spoke, her eyes flashing with sudden fire.
Who's he calling a vile creature? came Meral's voice in her head. He seemed a little shaken but the humor in his words reassured Scarlet. Who's he calling maiden? she retorted, the humor in her reply laced with anger.
"Sir," she began, stressing the word to the point of sarcasm, "That 'beast' happens to be my dragon, and if you do not lower your weapon; I'm afraid I would have to advise you to speed away from me, while you're still able." She kept the fury from her voice, raising it only to be heard from where she was standing. Meral hovered above, still in the line of Amras's arrow. Her hair whipped around her face in the downdraft from Meral's laboured wing beats, but Scarlet stood her ground, poised, and prepared to fight this stranger if the need be.

He dropped his bow and arrow and before it hit the ground his sword was drawn and the point at her mere inches from her throat.
" stand down my lady, I only meant to secure your safety. You should choose more wisely your opponents. Forgive me for injuring you pet, I have never seen a dragon take a master before so I knew not the better of the situation. My name is Amras Lossëhelin (as he lowers his sword), sorry it is a habit. Besides fair women like you shouldn't be wielding swords, especially you, you are completely undisciplined. Ah, once again I am sorry, this too is a force of habit for me. What be your name maiden? How long have you be telepathically talking to your dragon? How long have you had it?"
As he questioned her he sheath his sword and picked his bow back up and looked back with a forced smile.

Scarlet looked down at his blade pointing at her throat, then ran her own sword up and down its length before pushing it aside. As he spoke, she couldn't help but wonder just who he was. If he was an elf, which he certainly looked like, then he was naive to think she couldn't hold her own in a sword fight. Women elves were equally as strong as the males, most knew that. She felt a twinge of annoyance when he called her undisciplined. She had literally only drawn her sword, so who was he to comment on her swordsmanship skills?
"You have never heard of the dragon-riders?" she asked, genuinely intrigued, "Meral, is my partner, my equal and certainly not a pet. He is as intelligent as you or I, and possibly more so."
Scarlet, carefull what you say. came Meral's voice in the back of her head.
"As for my skills with a sword, how can you call me undisciplined before I have even dealt a blow?" As she spoke, she sheathed her sword. Aggravated as she was by his words, she did not want to fight this stranger, he'd already stated he meant her no harm.
"So, it is a force of habit to degrade every woman you have met?" she continued in reply. "If you are naive enough to believe I would be more at home baking, then you are certainly mistaken." The frustration in her voice was clear with the last sentance, however she took a deep breath and continued in a gentler tone.
"I am Scarlet Aldsilver, page in Erivale's army." She offered her hand to him out of politeness, deciding not to answer his last two questions. For someone with such a brief outlook on dragon-riders, how he could tell they were communicating mentally surprised her a little.
You should leave Meral she told him quietly. You're not actually going to talk to this elf! Go back to the keep, get your wing seen too.her reply was firm, but not meant unkindly. I'm not leaving you with this man! Meral, I can take care of myself. You know that as well as I do, and if this man believes I am such a deliacte maiden, then all the better. He won't attack me, and if he does, I can fend for myself. No, go. I'll be fine.
Without another word, Meral submitted and took off, disappearing over the trees and out of sight.

He took her hand and looked at meral and telepathically said to him
" Sorry for my aggression earlier, I have little experience in the real world."
He looked at scarlet and said
" From a young age I have been taught everything of about the military. I rigorously exercised, practiced the sword and bow without end and studied strategy by candle light to the wee hours of the morning. Only being granted a few hours rest before the whole process started again. So you can see fair maiden how I might be critical of your sword skills just by your draw of the blade. I by no means consider you delicate, if fact I have the feeling your are very strong headed to the point of your own detriment. I also have been trained extensively in mind magic. May I ask your purpose here?"
In the back of his mind he did have concerns of being wanted by the military. His father had already enlisted him and he never showed for duty. His father had a lot of influence in the army and it wouldn't be long till they would be after him....

Meral acknowledged his words, but did not reply. Scarlet silently scolded herself for forgetting some elves had the power of thought magic. She would have to be more careful in the future when communicating with Meral, and use her own magic to shield their words. She listened to the elf's description of his upbringing. It sounded far from ideal, but then again- who was she to judge what was ideal? The latter part of her childhood had been far from idyllic. Also, he never mentioned if he trained of his own free will or not, and so she resolved to find out the particulars before she formed an opinion. “Sir, I can assure you I am not usually as…” she paused to find the right word, “...As brazen as just now, infact, in most other situations I would approach things more tactfully and with reserve. I have to admit, it was your attacking my dragon that provoked me to act so rashly.” She paused, studying his features properly for the first time. “Still," she contuined "You evidently have little knowledge of the real world, as you have said, but I cannot ignore your concern for my safety, so for that, I thank you. Still, here it is considered impolite to use mind magic to impose on others thoughts and conversations; it may be different where you come from, but in Erivale it is a common courtesy to respect others privacy…which is something you obviously did not learn in your training sessions... As to my purpose, I am returning from Faydell to Arinesse. May I ask as to why you are so far from home?" She tucked loose strands of golden hair behind her pointed ears, watching him intently as she waited for a reply. (OOC: I know in my first post in seemed like I was travelling to Faydell, but I've already posted there and am now on my way back so that's why I'm heading to Arinesse [just to let you know] )

He struggled to find the words as he said
" Well I am just... wandering for right now. I have yet to experience the world and I thought this might be the best way to take it all in."
He looked at here, full well knowing he had just lied to her about why he was so far from home. Given that she is in the military, she might be inclined to know about his desertion. He hoped that his reason would appease her queriousity.

"Well, if you're looking for the sights, then Arinesse is probably the best place for that." she replied, beginning to walk and wondering if he'd follow.
"It's huge, diverse and has some really beautiful buildings; it's totally different to elven cities." Glancing to one side into Faydell forest, she allowed herself a small smile as she thought of her elven home.
No. she thought, Arinesse is my home now... Suddenly remembering that Amras could read her thoughts, she hurriedly changed the subject. "Are you planning on joining the army?" she asked, "I'm sure you'd be an asset to their forces, what with your legendary swordsmanship you've been telling me about." she added light-heartedly, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

With a flash, he drew his sword like lighting, sliceing a single strain of hair from her head and catching it on the tip of his sword and raising it to her eye level to show her. He said
" I rarely exagerate any claim, next time don't be so chavaler with your tone. No I have no intention of joining the army, I have spent my entire life in training for war. My father has signed me up, but I refuse to obey him. "
Sheathing his sword is a quick and smooth motion he walk with her and said
" I don't have much social grace, but what I lack in that area is made up with my combat skills and the ability to make life or death decision within an instant, my father drilled that foul skill in me."

Scarlet didn't even have time to move as Amras drew his sword, and cut off a strand of her hair. He raised it up to her, the golden strands curled against the silver of his sword reflected the light of the setting sun over head. He had made his point.
She resisted the urge to slap him hard around the face. Scarlet was not used to being treated like this. She turned her back on him, staring straight ahead with a stony expression and defying the overwhelming temptation to inspect the damage to her hair. She walked on in silence, and was surprised when he actually carried on walking with her.
He began to speak: "I don't have social grace--"
Scarlet muttered darkly to herself "You don't say..."
When he had finished speaking, she stopped dead in her tracks and turned to face him.
"I'm afraid your skills in combat don't make up for the social grace you lack. Do you think that being skilled with a sword will bring you any substantial happiness? So you can make life or death decisions in an instant, so what?" her voice grew quiet, but the impact of her words still remained the same. "Who wants to be alive when you are friendless and partenerless? Why fight when you have nothing to fight for? Nothing you have said to me today has made me any way inclined to wish to speak to you any further. Good day Sir."
Leaving her words hanging in the air, she turned from him and walked back up the road- arms crossed and hair swept to one side- at twice her previous speed.

He easily kept with her pace and said
" Maiden, I beg thee then teach me such skills for I have none. In exchange I will perform any service you would have of me that is within my power. Your words have struck true, I desire more from life then living by the sword, but I don't know how."
Stops and knees and says quitely
" I beseech you teach me of these things so that I might know life as it should be and not as my father would have it be!"

Scarlet was shocked at his reaction and stood staring down at him unable to find the right words. After a few moments she gathered herself together. "Stand up." she said simply, offering him her arm. "When we get to Arinesse, I can show you around and at the same time and explain the social ettiquette expected of you. Hopefully then you can live the life you want..." She continued walking alongside him and looking up at the orange sky said, "Hopefully we'll reach Arinesse before nightfall. Have you enough money to buy a room at the inn?" [OOC: you can reply here and then post somewhere in the city if you want ]
