Drakan was thrilled when Carmen accepted his invitation, and he had to try hard to keep it to himself. He didnt want to seem too excited in case he scared Carmen off.
He thought to himself for a few moments, letting the noises around him wash over his ears. He was thinking about what he would wear and hoping that his dress suit still fitted.
"I think we need to dress reasonably formally" He told Carmen. "I need to go and check that my suit still fits!" He stood up and brushed the dirt from the seat of his trousers. "I'll meet you at the stables in a few hours?" he asked, hoping that they wouldnt be late. He waited until she answered and then began to walk home.

Carmen smiled and looked at Nexa. He souonded sincere to me, She said in Carmen's head. "Yes" she said, trying not to sound to excited either. "I'll meet you there," and bring Ginger a carrot. She watched him walk away and sort of longed for him to stay. You'll get over it, Nexa replied to this thought. I don't see why you don't like him, Carmen replied. He's really cute and friendly. Nexa snorted, but you met whe he got angry at you for stealing and apple. Was he cute then? She took off and flew through the air before Carmen could reply. You should just watch your back. Carmen began to walk towards the hotel, thinking. I hope he likes my dress.

Finn walked down to the lake in silence, his eyes watching the perfectly clear reflection of the moon in the inky black waters of the lake. As far as he could tell, the lake was completely deserted. Then again, it was late in the evening, and most people were at home- or at the ball. He walked down to the lakes edge and stood there, staring out at the dark grey outline of the castle which was now opposite him. One of the pinprick windows of light would be the ballroom, and he for one was glad that he was not there.
Something about the stillness of the lake enticed him, and before he really thought about what he was doing, he stripped off his shirt, dropped it close-by on the ground, then dived into the lake. As a boy, they had had a lake nearby the farm, and Finn and his brother had spent many summer afternoons diving in from the side, racing across the lake or seeing how long they could hold their breath for.
Unfortunately, Finns spur of the moment decision hadn't prepared him for just how cold the water was. He burst up to the surface with a gasp as the impact of the icy water hit him like a punch in the stomach. Oh well he thought, treading water and making sure his clothes were safely piled beside the lake, I'm in now with that he duck-dived under the water and swum out into the centre of the lake.

Jessai dragged her feet in the dirt at the edge of the lake. She and Danforth had come here from the Swan and Staff. "It's lovely at night isnt it?" She asked her new friend. It seemed so long since she had first arrived in Erivale, alone and scared.
Jessai looked up and out across the lake. She was shocked to see a figure emerge from the surface. Someone was swimming out there. As she narrowed her eyes, Jessai identified the late night swimmer. It was Finn!
She giggled aloud, and Danforth gave her a questioning look. "Thats my friend Finn" She explained giggling some more. "He's having a late night nude swim!"

Danforth looked out across the lake and spotted the figure, swimming oblivious to the two of them by the side of the lake. "Yes, it does look nice" Danforth agreed "but something tells me it'd would look a lot better without naked swimmers". He laughed as he said this, but not loudly... he did not want to attract Finn's attention to the two of them. Danforth looked around him, taking in the full beauty of the lake, and he privately thought that this could be a good place to come to if he needed to relax a bit. He sat down and looked upwards at the clear night sky.

Jessai giggled once again and sat down on the ground beside Danforth. "So what brought you here?"she asked "To erivale i mean." She knew that alot of people came to Erivale to escape from their pasts, although she had also met people who had just come because of the army or because it was such a beautiful place. She herself had a history, and had come to escape it all. She suddenly realised that Danforth may not want to speak aloud of his reasons and added "If you don't mind my asking".
The stars above her were reflecting in the lake and Jessai was almost entranced by it. She could have sat here all night.

Danforth hesitated before he answered, but decided that he could trust Jessai. "I came to Erivale... not exactly to start a new life, but to get away from an old one." He hesitated again before continuing "My mother died when I was very young and to this day I don't know how, where or why it happened... to be honest I don't even know if she is dead... that's just what my father told me. My father never really cared for me and my mother died when I was two, so obviously I can't remember what he was like before then, but I presume that her passing changed him. I don't have any brother's or sisters and I've never really made friends easily" Danforth looked out to the lake, focusing anywhere other than Finn "I received a minor education from the local blacksmith and in return I did some light work for him... I'm not used to talking about it, but I used to have to fend for myself most days as my father rarely cooked for me, and up until I was about twelve, I sometimes went hungry for days at a time. Anyway, I finally got tired of my father, life in that run down villiage and working for a blacksmith, and decided to move away and try to start over... so what's your story?"

Jessai breathed a huge sigh. "Slightly similar really" She said slowly. "My mother died when i was young too. I can barely remember her, and all i have to remind me of her is a dress she used to wear..." She trailed off. "Anyway, when she died, my father became...very protective of me...over protective. He never let me out of the house, except into the garden if i was supervised. My older brother was allowed out, and i often begged him to persuade my father to let me out too. It never worked though. I had a governor who taught me basic arithmetic and how to read and write, but apart from him...i had no contact with anyone but my brother and father. Eventually, on my seventeenth birthday, i decided i needed a life. So i ran away and ended up here." Jessai looked away from Danforth. "Thats my story..."
The two of them sat in silence for a while. Jessai was thinking about her past and she lay down beside Danforth. Within minutes she felt her eyes close, and was soon sound asleep.

Danforth sat in silence beside Jessai, lost in thoughts of his past. He looked at Jessai and his jacket that she was still wearing. He smiled again and hoped that she wasn't hoping to keep it... it was his favourite jacket. He was cold without it on and as he looked over at Jessai again he noticed that she was sound asleep. Danforth stifled a yawn and silently lay down beside Jessai, watching her sleep. He thought about the days events and knew that moving away was a change for the better. He had known this girl for no more than a few hours and was already amazed by her. He had never made a connection like this with anyone and didn't want to let go of her for a second. Danforth didn't notice himself falling asleep, or reality subtly blending into dreams of Jessai and him walking through fields or kissing under a starry sky.

Jessai awoke to find herself cold and obviously not in her own bed. Stting up suddenly, she realised she had fallen asleep beside Danforth, at the lake. Oh no! she screamed inside. Throwing Danforth's jacket down, she started to run back towards the palace.
She felt guilty at running away, especially after Danforth had been so kind to her. But it was daylight now, and it wouldnt do to be found sleeping by the lake.
She felt surprisigly refreshed after sleeping outdoors, although she was sure she must look a state. She needed to get to Swncrest, she had so much to do today. Perhaps she could catch up with Danforth later on.
Soon Jessai reached the road from Arinesse to Swncrest, and started to sprint faster.

Danforth awoke and looked beside him. Jessai had vanished and aside from a patch of slightly flattened grass, there was no sign of her ever being there. He got up and looked around, the air was still and Jessai was nowhere to be found. Feeling slightly disheartened, Danforth stood up and retraced the steps he had recently taken with Jessai, back towards town. Somehow, he'd known that things wouldn't work out between the two of them, and as such he wasn't overly let down. He shrugged and carried on walking, with a cool breeze making his hair dance behind him.

Rose walked down to the lake, a shawl wrapped around her arms and still dressed in her ball dress. She had already walked half way around the lakes perimeter and stopped opposite the castle, gazing up at the turret which was her room, outlined in moonlight. Not looking where she was treading she promptly hooked her foot in a shirt that had been dropped on the ground, and as she took another step forwards it got caught underneath her other foot and she toppled forward with a yell.
Propping herself up, with her skirts bunched around her knees and a great mud smear up her leg she could help but laugh at her reflection in the water. Then she saw a figure swimming out in the middle of lake, and pulled herself up rather ungracefully.
"Hello...?" she called out, "Are you alright?" Not that she'd be much help if they were drowning, she couldn't swim.

Matt had decided to take Steel out of the Palace garden for a bit. The dragon loved the lake so Matt had sat for hours, watching the silver dragon plunge into the water after fish. The Matt fell asleep at the Lakeside.
When Matt awoke, he found Steel at his side sleeping peacefully. Matt got up and looked at the Lake, It was so inviting, so he quickly took of his shirt and jumped in.
Feeling Matt jump into the water, Steel awoke and joined him. They swam out to the middle of the lake and the began a splashing fight. To anybody who was far away it might look like someone was drowning, but Matt was simply having fun.
Matt heard the Princess's cries and swam back to shore, no matter how much Steel would protest. Matt slowly came out of the water and stood before the princess. "I'm fine, but thank you for your concern," He bowed as Steel flew to his shoulder. Then he looked around the beach for his shirt, unsure of where he'd left it.
