This beautiful lake reflects the towering spires of the palace and the beauty of its grounds. Early morning and dusk, is when it is at its most isolated. During the warmer weather many people choose to go for a swim in the lake, and many members of the army swim lengths to increase strength and stamina. Magic users come here to practise manipulating water, and it's a handy watering hole for horses as its just en route to the stables. It's a lovely place to come, whatever your intentions are.

Finn led his mare through the palace grounds and stopped by the gently sloping banks of the lake. He left the horse drinking greedily and lay down beside her, resting his head in his hands, and gazed out across the lake admiring the view of the palace in the reflection.
He had been awed by what little of the city he had already seen. Finn was used to isolated country life, not bustling streets and marketplaces. The solitude of the lake pleased him, and he felt more relaxed than he had done since he'd left home. He allowed himself a small smile, glad that he'd made it to Arinesse in one piece.

Rose walked along the banks of the lake as she did every other evening. She loved the palace grounds, and the lake was one of her favourite parts, she had often whiled away the day painting the castle and its silvery reflection. It was late eveing, and usually at this time most of the visitors had left. Rose like the peace the evening bought to the grounds.
Further down, she spotted a young man lying down beside the lake, and what she assumed to be his horse drinking. After debating silently for a few minutes, she made her way over to him. She wasn't usually allowed to talk to the visitors to the grounds, not without having someone accompany her. But this evening she was bored and alone, and also a little curious.
"Hello." she said, as she approached him, not knowing what to say next she hurridley looked up at the sky which was tinged pink in the evening, and the clouds thrown into a pale orange light from the setting sun.
"Lovely evening, isn't it?"

Jessai had begun to feel a little better about running away from home. Her sadness and worry had turned to confidence and excitement about this great city. She had left her cosy spot in the orchard and, dragging her bag behind her, decided to explore a little further. She walked out fo the orchard and found herself at the edge of the lake. Not far away she spotted Finn. She wanted to apologise for crying and running away earlier.
"Finn!" She called happily, beginning to run towards him. She stopped suddenly when she spotted another girl. "Oh" she said apologetically, "I didnt mean to interrupt." She turned to walk away. Where next? she wondered.

Laying back on his hands, Finn watched the clouds, trying to make shapes out of them like he had done when he was a young boy with his brother. A strangers voice brought him out of his trance, and he sat up to see a girl standing not far away. She was unlike any girl he'd seen before. Her hair was shining gold, and perfectly curled, her skin was flawless. He gaped like a fish for a few seconds before finding his tongue.
"It's beautiful." he replied, with a wary smile. "Do you come down here often?" If Finn had lived in the city for as long as your average person. He probably would have cringed and what he just said. As it was, he had no idea that it was a completley cliched pick-up line nor that he was talking with the Princess of Erivale.
He began to introduce himself, "I'm--" he began.
"FINN!" -Jessai's call finished his sentance for him, and he turned to see her running towards the lake. She stopped mid-run and turned to walk away. Finn looked back to the girl, then Jessai unsure of what to say.

Rose gave Finn a smile as he sat up, she guessed he'd been watching the clouds, it was something she'd done on many occasions when she was bored or needed time to think.
"Do I come here often?" she repeated, "Actually It's one of my favorite places in the grounds, and it's best at this time in the evening. It can get quite busy during the day."
Rose looked up to see a girl running towards them, she was calling "Finn" which she assumed was the boys name. She turned to walk away when she caught sight of Rose talking with him. "You don't have to leave!" Rose called out, but she was unsure whether the girl heard or not.
"Well," she said, turning back to Finn, "I better go anyway, i'm expected back at the..at home." she almost curtsied but stopped herself just in the nick of time. She patted his horse on the neck as she turned and left, heading back towards the palace to get ready for the ball tomorrow.
"My name's Rose by the way!" she called back over her shoulder.

Jessai turned back as she heard the girl call her. Should i go back? She wondered carefully. She didnt have much experience with other people, especially ones of her own age (which she presumed this girl was) and so she didnt know whether it was the correct thing to do. As she wondered, she stared, and soon watched the girl leave. Jessai decided this was her cue, and skipped back toards Finn.
"Hi Finn" she smiled, and curtsied slightly. "Sorry about earlier. I have thought things through and decided to move on!" She looked down at her attire and realised that she needed to change. "This dress badly needs repair...but i think that there must be somewhere in Arinesse that can fix it up!" Her mood had improved greatly from their previous meeting, and Jessai hoped she wasnt coming across as strange.
It was strange talking to Finn, as the only other boy she had really ever spoken to was her own brother, and family was different. "I hope, I'm acting ok...I dont really know how i should be behaving..." She looked to Finn for advice, praying silently that he would tell her she was doing fine.

Nexa flew above Carmen, circling around the Lake. Carmen walked to the edge of the water and sat down. She was fully aware of the other people, but didn't want to disturd their conversation. Nexa? Carmen asked. Why do you think Draken didn't kiss me? Nexa, still flying replied. Well you were in a public house and he seemed to have something else on his mind. Carmen sighed. But afterwards, at city square, he got into something strange and later at the stables he just said hello and left. I'm beginning to wonder if he really wanted to kiss me. Nexa sighed, not replying. Then she dove into the lake. Carmen felt the cold rush through her body and felt much more relaxed. Then Nexa emerged, a fish in her mouth and flew to the beach. She landed next to Carmen and said. Maybe he's seeing someone else. Nexa's eyes sparkled micheviously. Carmen didn't want to think about Draken anymore, so she looked out onto the Lake.

"Rose..." Finn repeated to himself, watching as the girl left. He heard a voice behind him, and turned to see Jessai backtracking towards the lake. He stood up, brushing grass off of his trousers and greeting her with a smile. Whilst she spoke, he retrieved his horse, who seemed to be quite content with staring at her reflection in the lake, and led her up the bank towards Jessai.
"You don't need to be sorry about earlier!" he said, although secretly he was glad the girl was alright. "I'm sure there'll be someone in this town that can fix your dress, it's big enough!" he wound the reins around his wrist, then realising what he had just implied added: "The city that is, not the dress!" He certainly did not wanting to indirectly insult Jessai by accident again. When Jessai asked him how she was acting, he was a little taken back by the question.
"Urrm, you're acting fine." He replied, unsure of what Jessai wanted him to say. It seemed strange to him that Jessai would ask him that, but then again, maybe that's how they do things in the city- or maybe Jessai was just a forward person.
"Well, I better get to the stables." he said, "I only meant to stop off here for a bit, it's been a long day! I hope you manage to fix your dress!" he nodded his head and gave her a smile, before leading his horse away and up to the palace stables.

Jessai waved goodbye to Finn. He had seemed a little shocked by her question and Jessai hoped he hadnt left because of it. She sighed, and took a few steps towards the edge of the water.
She slipped her shoe off and dangled her toes into the icy water. It was refreshing and Jessai felt relaxed. All of a sudden, a huge splash erupted from the centre of the lake. Jessai screamed and grabbing her shoe ran back towards the palace. She looked back cautiously and could barely believe her eyes. A great purple dragon rose upwards, a fish wriggling in its mouth and eventually landed beside a young girl. Jessai, her eyes wide, backed further away, and into the city.
Part of her had wanted to ask the girl on the shore about the dragon. But she was too scared and shocked. She hoped there weren't any more dragons in the city.

On his way back from the palace, Drakan passed by the lake. It was a beautiful day, and Drakan enjoyed looking at the scenery. As he walked past he spotted Carmens red hair, blowing in the breeze. His heart seemed to miss a beat.
He ran over to her, and leant over the top of her head. So his upside down face was in front of hers. "hey stranger!" he grinned, and standing up properly, sat down beside her. "How are you?" He noticed Nexa was nearby, and narrowed his eyes towards the purple beast.

Nexa snorted at the sight of Draken, but Carmen's heart jumped with joy. "Hi Draken!" She said. She looked at Nexa, who didn't say anything and flew off to get another fish. "I'm doing fine," She smiled, her eyes sparkling and her long hair blowing in the wind. She had it down today. She'd noticed his little look at Nexa and mentioned, "You know, it's not a very good idea to have an anmila like a dragon for an enemy. She used to like you." She giggled remebering Nexa licking Draken's hand with her long slimy tongue. "How's Arkis?" She asked, half wanting to change the subject.

"Oh...he's fine" Drakan replied, wondering why Carmen was asking about his horse.
"Um...Carmen" he asked nervously, "Would you like to come to the ball with me?" Drakan had wanted to ask Carmen this for a few days now, but hadnt seen her at all. Now he had to summon up all of his courage to do so.
His face had turned a little red but he managed to keep eye contact with her. He hoped she would like to go with him.

Carmen looked at Draken directly in the eyes. Her red hair was blowing in the wind and her green eyes sparkling with delight. All past doubts put behind her, Carmen answered, "Yes. Yes! Definatley," She was finding it hard to contain her joy. Be careful, she heard Nexa's voice in the back of her mind. "I'll meet you there."
She tore her gaze from his and looked out on the lake again. Nexa plunged into the water and Carmen got that strange sensation again. She looked back at Draken smiling as Nexa landed close and she ate the fish she had caught. Carmen took the bones and threw them in the lake. She watched them sink and sat down on the sandy beach. "Come, sit," She said to Draken as Nexa curled up beside her, her scaly body warm against Carmen's side.
