Jessai crept into the ballroom, trying to be as inconspicuous as she possibly could. She stood in a corner by the door, and watch the people as they chatted and danced.
Everyone looks so beautiful Jessai thought to herslef. And they did. Each girl had a different coloured dress, each in a different style. One girl had tassles, another had a shawl. No two were alike. The men, athough all dressed similarly, all looked smart in their coats and tails.
Jessai wore her mothers white dress, which had now been repaired, and although she knew she didnt look out of place, she felt less elegant. As she looked around, she spotted the girl Finn had been talking to at the lake. She looked stunning tonight, with her hair curled perfectly and her dress flowing around her. Only now did the thought occur to Jessai- This was the princess!
Jessai was surprised she hadnt realised at first sight. It was clear now. This girl carried herself in a different way to the other girls, and she had a much classier attitude. Wondering if it was the usual practice for guests to greet the Princess and the Soveriegn, Jessai walked towards the pair. As she drew closer she saw that Princess Roseanne was even prettier than she had thought.
Bowing her head and curtseying, jessai met the soverieng for the first time. She was terrified and secretly hoped she hadnt been too forward, and that others were greeting the royalty in this way.

Scarlet smiled politely as the Earl approached her, glad to see someone she recognized- but also a little shocked that he had decided to talk to her. When he asked her to dance, Scarlet was even more taken aback. She knew she certainly could not decline the Earl, and after only a few moments consideration, she curtsied replying that she would love to dance.
She allowed the Earl to take her arm and lead her onto the dance floor. She fervently hoped that humans did not dance much differently to elves. Although she was quite light on her feet and could pick up new dances with ease, she had never been the most co-ordinated of dancers- she could move fluidly and gracefully around the dance floor- although every now and again she was prone to tripping over her own, or her partner's, feet.

The Earl certainly did nothing to disguise his wink, so rather than standing there in an awkward silence with the Sovereign- Alianna spoke straight away.
"I had not expected there to be so many people, and so early on in the night!" As she waited for Valros to reply, a young girl in a white dress approached them and curtseyed- she looked petrified. Alianna gave her warm smile, and after the Sovereign had addressed her, curtsied in reply.
As the muscicians began with the first song of the evening, Alianna turned to the Sovereign with a smile.
"How long were you planning to wait before asking me to dance Valros?" she asked playfully, then taking his hand stepped down onto the floor.

As Finn stepped into the ballroom, he began to wish he'd never decided to come. For one thing, he was massively under-dressed compared to everyone else in the room and for another thing he hardly knew anybody. He walked into the crowd, trying hard to blend in, which was hard considering he resembled a scarecrow when compared to everyone else.
Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Scarlet dancing and allowed himself to relax slightly. At least he knew someone. Then he caught sight of Rose. She looked even more beautiful than she had done at the lake and Finn stood debating whether to talk to her or not. In the end, he decided to just walk over to her-hoping she wouldn't take one look at his attire and walk away.
He made his way through groups of chatting people to the edge of the dance floor where she stood. "Hello Rose." he said, his voice unwavering although his stomach was in knots.

Jessai noticed Finn enter the ballroom, and felt a smile wash over her face. He looked lovely, but also awkward. She guessed that Finn had never been to a ball and probably felt out of place, just as she did.
As she watched, Finn walked towards Rose, and Jessai felt a pang of jealousy. She was fond of Finn, despite their few meetings. He was funny and made her smile. She didnt want to stand watching Finn and Rose, so she decided to turn away.
Many couples had moved onto the dance floor and jessai wished she had a partner. She had always read about dancing, and the grand balls that royalty had in her books, and always wanted to attend one. Now she was here, but with nobody to dance with.

The Sovereign cringed inwardly at the Earl's wink and was glad when Alianna spoke immediately, changing the subject. Before he replied he noticed a girl approaching. He addressed Jessai politely, inclining his head to her and wishing her a pleasant evening.
As the music began and Alianna asked him about dancing, he hardly had a chance to form the words: "I was planning--" before she had lead him towards the dance floor. He put up no resistance for two main reasons. For one thing, he had no objection to dancing with Lady Alianna, infact- quite the opposite. And for another he could keep an eye on Rose much better from down here. It had been his intention (which he had told no-one, not even Alianna or Christoph) not only to use this ball as a way of introducing Rose to the city folk, but also for him to keep his eye out for a suitor for her.
He adjusted his crown slightly, so it wasn't digging quite so hard into his scalp- then placed on hand around Alianna's waist and began to dance.

Matt walked into the ballroom, wondering if his sister was there. He didn't want to face her. He saw the elf he'd helped from the alleyway, dancing with the earl and his sister was in the corner looking extremly shy. He quickly looked away and saw a girl all by herself. He walked up to Jessai, fixing his black outfit. "Hi," he said, a little shyly. "Would you like to dance, my fair lady?" He hoped she would answer although that had never really met. Isn't this what balls are for? he thought to himself.

Jessai blushed a bright shade of red as Matthew approached her. "I would love to!" she said happily and smiled. "Only i can't dance...you see i've never done it before" Jessai hoped that she wasn't coming across as strange. The boy in front of her was very handsome, and jessai felt honoured to have been asked to dance. She took Matthews hand "but you could always try to teach me?" she giggled.

Matt smiled at the girl. "I'll teach you then," He pulled her out onto the dance floor. "My sister once..." at mention of his sister his voice trailed off. Then he shwed Jessai the dance. "It goes One, two three, one, two, three," He moved his feet in the way that Liz had taught him once. After he thought she'd got it he said, "By the way. My name's Matt." He smiled and his blue eyes glimmered.

Drakan pushed open the great oak doors and signalled to Carmen that she should enter. Drakan had been to one or two balls before, but he had never socialised much. He was usually told to sit in the corner and not to cause a scene. But he knew that in Erivale, those thoughts could be forgotten and that tonight was a celebration.
He followed carmen through the doors, and once again he took her arm. "It's lovely isnt it?" he asked his companion, as he took in the elegant ballroom. Ornate architecture lined the room and the people were dressed to match.
Somewhere, a band began to play and pulling Carmen closer so that she could hear him, he whispered "Shall we dance?" into her ear.

Carmen walked into the ballroom with awe. This was her first ball and she was extremly excited. All past things forgotten she walked out onto the dance floor with Draken. Everyone was so beautiful. Carmen looked at Draken and blushed slightly. "I'd love too, Draken," she said aloud, "But I don't really know how to dance," she whispered back into his ear. "Could you teach me?" She smiled at his, looking up into his eyes.

Drakan twirled Carmen around him and then pulled her close. "I think, youre a natural" he smiled and placed one hand on her waist, keeping the other in her hand. "This is possibly the best ball i've ever been to" he blushed slightly "But i think its just because you are here..."
As the music ended, Drakan took Carmens hand and led her away rom the dance floor. "Would you like a drink?" he asked, still smiling. He poured a glass of wine and held it out, offering it to his date.

Carmen enjoyed dancing with Draken, it was on of the best times she'd had in her life. He life of crime and Jail faded away and she became a new person. A Dragon Rider and a real Lady. She smiled at him as he took her off the dance floor. She accepted his wine and took a sip, letting the heat fill her soul. Then in the back of the thoughts She heard Nexa. Having a good time? She ignored it. Then she saw the princess and said to Draken, "Excuse me for a second, I have something to give to the Princess." She left her wine with Draken and walked over to Princess Rosanne.
"Excuse me Princess," She said in a kindly voice. "I have a gift for you," She pulled out a small sort of triangular shaped object. Then she held it out for the Princess to see. It was a purple dragon scale, that had been painted. There was gold paint around the edges with silver and bronze birds painted in the center. "It's one of Nexa's scales. It fell off one night and I kept it and painted it for you," She bowed and handed it to the princess.

Drakan smiled and nodded as Carmen excused herself. He watched her walk away, noticing how pretty she looked tonight, once again. Her hair which hung loose over her back, shone in the light from the chandeliers, giving her the aura of an angel.
Drakan felt honoured to be with her and felt proud that someone so beautiful had wanted to spend time with himself. All of the other couples on the dancefloor seemed insignificant to Drakan, he was with Carmen.
He could see that Carmen would be a while and so he turned to look around the room. A flash of blonde caught his eyes, and he realised that Scarlet was here. She was waltzing with the Earl, and Drakan watched intently. He realised that Scarlet no longer gave him that feeling, the one where he felt he could fly. He hadnt spoken to his former friend since the incident with scarlets attack, and he wasnt going to be the first to start.
