Finn stood stunned as Scarlet opened the door so suddenly. He hadn't prepared what he was going to say, so stood wide-eyed staring at her, promptly removing his hand which was still held up in preparation to knock level with her face.
"I..er, I saw you last night," he began to explain "And you looked...well, you seemed..." he faltered and came to a standstill. She didn't look anything like she had done last night. "I thought I'd check you were alright..." he finished feebly. As she closed the door he noticed the scratches on her hands- it was definitely the same girl.
Indiscreetly he looked her up and down. Finn had never seen an elf this close up before and he had to admit, she didn't live up to the wild rural myths he had heard; two of the stable lads didn't even believe in elves. He had been bought up with the exaggerated stories of magical elves of the forest, whose beauty enchanted anyone they come across and who literally sing food from trees. This girl was certainly attractive and graceful, but it was really only her ears that betrayed she as an elf. He wished the stable lads could have seen her.
Finn looked down at the door behind her, unable to look Scarlet directly in the eyes. He ran his hand through his hair- something he usually did when he felt uncomfortable- and waited for her to reply.

"Oh," Scarlet was taken aback as to the man's reason as to why he had been standing right outside her door. She was shocked, but it was kind of him to think of her. "Well thank-you," she replied with a smile, and feeling she should give him an explanation, continued: "Last night, I got into a bit of trouble in the back streets. I'm alright now though." She tucked loose strands of hair behind her ears, unsure of what to say next to the man.
"I'm Scarlet by the way." she began, "I was just on my way out actually, but thank-you for checking on me all the same."
With an apologetic smile, she side-stepped past him and started down the stairs taking them steps two at a time. She turned back to him and called, "If you're not too busy, you're very welcome to come with me..."

The backstreets. Finn didn't know where that was- but the name gave away what sort of place it was. He wanted to ask why exactly she'd been attacked, but thought better of it. She probably didn't want to talk about it. As she tucked golden strands of her behind her pointed ears, he inhaled sharply as he caught sight of a huge scar on her head. It looked pretty nasty.
"I'm Finn." he replied, after she introduced herself as Scarlet. When she told him she was on out, Finn could have kicked himself for looking so shocked. After all, she had just come out of her room, of course she was on her way out. He moved out of the way to let her past then watched her descend the stairs. When she turned back to call up to him, the tips of his ears turned a deep shade of red, embarressed that he'd been caught watching her. Luckily, she didn't seem to have noticed.
"Come with you? Well, I need to go downstairs as well, but then, then I have some things I have to do..." he replied, making his way down the stairs so he could walk with her. It wasn't a complete lie, he did have things to do, he just hadn't decided what yet. Besides, he had the feeling that Scarlet was only asking him along out of politeness.
"So, where are you going?" he asked, as they reached the front doors. He pushed onto the righthand side door, and held it open for Scarlet.

Scarlet waited on the stairs for Finn to join her. As she made her way down the stairs talking to Finn, the receptionist gave her a sidelong glance which she did her best to ignore. She was glad that the lobby was practically empty, she could really do without being made a spectacle of.
"Well, I need to do some shopping!" Scarlet replied, ducking under Finn's arm as he held the door open for her, and stepping into the street. She could see Meral waiting for her and headed towards him.
"I need to get something to wear for the ball up at the palace, you know, the one for the Princess?"

"A ball? I hadn't heard that ther--" Finn stopped mid-sentence after seeing the large creature that was sitting in the middle of the street. An emerald dragon- the size of a fully grown horse. Passers-by didn't really seem to bothered by its presence, Finn however stood rooted to the spot, his eyes so wide that a large thump on the back of his head could have dislodged them...
"Is that your dragon?" he asked Scarlet as she walked straight towards it. Dragons were another thing that had been part of the wild fables he grown up with. But looking at it, he guessed they hadn't been exaggerated.
"Well, maybe I'll see you at this ball then." he offered, before backing away from the dragon, trying to look less in awe than he actually was. He backed straight into a middle-aged man hurrying by and spun around to apologize, but the man had already past him, cursing and muttering under his breath.

Scarlet headed towards Meral, then stopped aware that Finn was no longer following her. She turned back to face him just in time to catch his words.
"This is Meral, I'm a dragonrider in Erivale's army." Meral stood up and made his way over to where Scarlet was standing. He narrowed his eyes at Finn examining him, but remained silent.
"I'll see you at the ball then." Scarlet replied, with a smile climbing onto Meral's back, and feeling a twinge of guilt at the same time, as she had really been neglecting Ember. She stifled a laugh as Finn backed into a passer-by, then headed off in the other direction.
Who was that? came an inquiring thought from Meral. Scarlet explained quickly. How kind of him. Meral replied, although Scarlet couldn't quite tell if he was being sincere or not. It was wasn't it. she replied with a grin, shifting on his back to make herself more comfortable and so the backs of her legs weren't rubbing against his hard scales.

Matthew had just finished his first training session with The Sovereign. It had been long and tiring, but Matt knew it was worth it. He threw himself onto his bed at the Inn. And closed his eyes.
In his dreams, Matt saw Liz on a dragon, the dragon had no particular color, but it was obviously her steed. She flew through the sky on it, laughing at Matt, while he struggled on the ground, longing to fly in the air with her. She laughed evilly and Matt sank too his knees. "Why Liz! Why!!"
Matt awoke to find himself on the floor. He'd been tossing and turning so much. He stood up and looked out the window, wondering if Liz really did hate him. He couldn't help looking out at the clouds and seeing Liz's face there. I have to find her, He thought.

Jessai pulled a sodden, dripping Danforth into the inn and placed her coins on the counter. "A room please" she said clearly. The inkeeper handed her a key and gave directions.
It took a while for the pair to reach the room, due to Danforth constantly tripping and falling, but eventually they got to room 34 and Jessai pushed open the door. She threw Danforth onto the bed and lit the lamp. A knock at the door sounded and the innkeeper handed Jessai some towels. "For your husband" he said kindly and scuttled away. Jessai frowned. Husband? she asked herself and shut the door behind herself.
It was only then that jessai realised they had been given a double room. She sighed, and offered Danforth the towels, however a snore told her that he was asleep. i cant leave him in these wet clothes... she panicked he could catch his death.
after a few minutes panic, she realised she would have to remove his wet things. She began to take off his jacket and shirt, and carefully placed them on a nearby chair. Luckily his trousers didnt seem to wet and she was content with leaving those on.
By the time she had removed his boots and got him into the bed, it was far too late for her to be heading back to work or her room in Swyncrest. She undressed and put on her night shirt which she had in her pack [she kept it with her at all times] then she climbed gingerly into the other side of the bed and hoped she would be the one to wake up first.

Contrary to Jessai's hopes, Danforth woke up first. He rubbed his eyes, moaned and stretched. Something occurred to him. He had fallen asleep in a puddle, not a bed. He closed his eyes again, not wanting to think about what he had done in his drunken stupor... however he decided to look across the bed. He let out a loud yelp, scrambled backwards and fell out of the bed, dragging the sheets and Jessai with him. They landed on the floor in a heap with a resounding thump.

Jessai woke up as she felt herself being pulled across the bed. She heard Danforths yell, and let out a shout of her own. After a few seconds she realised what was happening, and before she knew it she was on top of Danforth on the floor. Scrambling wildly, she tried to stand up but just succeeded in tripping over once again. Eventually she managed to untangle herself from the sheets and Danforth. "Hi..." she said slowly, cursing silently to herself. Why couldnt i have woken first?
She grabbed her clothes and went into the adjoining bathroom, where she put on her shirt and trousers before going back into the main room.
"Um..nice sleep?"

Danforth stared at her as she left the room, hardly believing his eyes. He couldn't think how he had ended up here and didn't particularly want to know. He managed to pull himself onto the bed while Jessai was in the other room, and his mouth was feeling dry and his head was pounding. He stared at her as she re-entered the room and his jaw moved up and down gormlessly as he tried to think of a response to her question. He just about managed to say "I uhh... muhh... what? how did...? uhh...." he rested his head in his hands and ran a hand through his hair.

"I found you outside. In a puddle" she said, without really acknowledging his confused state. "You were extremely drunk and wet, so i brought you to the inn," she continued. "I intended to get a single room for you and leave you to your own devices, only the inn keeper got the wrong idea and thought we were married." She signalled to the double bed. "You were out cold before i could tell you to change, and i couldnt leave you in those wet things, you would have been ill! So i took off your shirt and boots and left you sleeping." She picke dup the bed sheets and started to make the bed again. "By the time i had made sure you were okay, it was far too late for me to head all the way over to Swyncrest, so i stayed here."
She had finished making the bed now and she looke dover to Danforth and smiled. "You dont...mind do you?"

"No... of course not... thanks" Replied Danforth. He returned her smile and then lay back on the freshly made bed, running his hands through his hair again. "It's just... I thought... when I woke up at the lake you were gone. I thought you didn't like me..." He looked over to her, feeling mostly stupid, but also... well completely stupid. He smiled and looked away, resting his aching head once again upon one of the pillows.

"Oh no!" Jessai exclaimed, but afterwards thought she had made it just a little too obvious that she liked him so much. "I had to get back to Swyncrest, thats all" She smiled sweetly. "Actually, i had probably better be off now. I sort of want to explore Erivale a bit more." She began to pick up her bag from the floor. As she did so she noticed Danforths clothes and picked them up. "Get dressed" she grinned and said "Then you can come too if you want?"

Danforth grinned as Jessai explained why she had left him so abruptly. He held his hand out and caught his clothes as Jessai threw them to him. "Sure, It'd be great to come with you... I mean, I am supposed to be getting to know this place better afterall". For some reason, he couldn't help but feel comfortable and smile when he was around this girl. He quickly chucked on his clothes and followed her out of the door, still feeling embarassed about the whole situation.
