As Dade listened to the exchange between the dark haired man and the elf's captor, when he noticed that she had begun to rise to her feet. The two men in front of him still seemed to be distracted by each other, and didn't appear to notice when the elf quietly asked for them to stop. Dade looked on, with a look of slight confusion on his face, as he wondered what she was going to do. She didn't look particularly stable as she stood there, but Dade suddenly noticed something that put him on guard. A trail of smoke seemed to rise up from her finger tips, and she took a step backwards. As she did so, Dade stepped forward, so he was standing on the same level as the dark haired man.
"I would not advise you continue this any longer," he said, hoping that they would heed his advice. "Your captive appears to be about to use her magic. We will not let you leave with her, but we will not follow you if you choose to leave without her." He hoped the man standing beside him would agree with his compromise, after all he could think of no other way to remedy the situation that they now seemed to be trapped in. Dade knew that if the man did not accept, then it was likely a fight may ensue, and he was sure that he had not come to Arinesse to be involved in any more violence.

That was it... Laielyn could no longer control her magic. WIth a faint cry, barely audible, she let it all loose. Untrained and raw, she had no control over her magic, and for the most part she had a strong enough will to keep it from surfacing, but the smoke her captor had released had made her drowsy, and so her will had lessened.
THe magic surged about, and then did exactly what she wanted most - extracted her from the situation. Unfortunately, the wildness of the magic she could not yet control did a little more than that - it attempted to remove everyone from the situation. In a similar way to how her captor had released the smoke - indubitably the magic was mimicking the earlier situation - a curious golden mist shrouded all of the people present, and when it cleared, it seemed that some people had been taken by it...
((Continued in the "Crystal Falls and Rapids" thread in the Valburn Mountains in the Wilderness. I figured that by leaving it this way, anyone who wants to be swept off can be. I guess then they'd have to struggle to make their way back down the mountain or something? I've left it pretty much open ^^))

Danforth entered the public house feeling tired. His journey had not been long or hard, but he had not slept in days. His hair ceased blowing around his face as he entered the warm, welcoming scene, and he looked around, not sure what to expect. Aside from a few people looking about in a confused manner, as if looking for friends, the place seemed normal and regular activities were going about. Danforth felt more alone than he had in a long time as he watched some of the figures in the bar share a joke and roll around laughing. The feeling of solitude did not bother him... he had spent most of his life alone and almost drew strength from the feeling that he did not need to rely on others. This thought passed and he shrugged off old memories, knowing that the past is better left buried. Danforth quickly wiped his muddy boots on the welcome mat and made his way over to the bar, where he sat down feeling slightly out of place. Once again, he did not let this feeling bother him.

Jessai was busy wiping the bar when a new face sat down. "Hey there" She smiled warmly. "What can i get you?" She put down her cloth and began to get a glass ready. "I haven't seen you around here before. New?" Something about this newcomer appealed to Jessai but she couldnt quite put her finger on what it was. He was definitely handsome, that much was certain. But that wasn't the only thing, she was sure.
"I'm Jessai by the way" She added with a wink.

Danforth surveyed the barmaid with interest as she spoke to him, and though he felt ashamed for thinking it, he suspected she was surveying him with interest as well. He let a smile whisper over his lips and replied "I'm Danforth... I only just arrived and I thought that this looked like a nice enough place to rest for a while. And to the question of what I'm having... what would you recommend to drink?"

"Hmm" Jessai laughed. "There is quite a selection. I am told that the beer is the best in erivale though!"
Jessai watched as a smile crept over Danforth's lips. So he was new here? It explained why Jessai hadn't seen him before! As she looked more closely at him she noticed three scars running across his left cheek. They didn't ruin his good looks, but they did look out of place on such a good looking young man. Jessai took a guess at him being a little older than herself.
As she passed him his drink, the owener of the public house called out to her. "Jessai, you're free to go home now!" "Well it seems my shift is over!" She smiled. Although she was glad that her shift was over, she felt that she wated to get to know Danforth a little better. Perhaps they would meet again soon.

Danforth noticed her looking looking at the scars on his cheek that he despised so much. He had received them from a near fatal experience which he did not usually like to elaborate on. He smiled and had the beer halfway to his lips when a call came out, telling jessai she could go home. His smile faultered for a second, but he recovered and said "Well, it was nice to have met you... maybe I'll look in again some time." Danforth would've liked to have offered to accompany her home, but he hardly knew this girl and besides, he hadn't even touched his beer.

Jessai smiled again and replied "I hope so..." As an afterthought she realised that she may have seemed slightly forward. She had barely spoken to this boy afterall. She had a feeling that Danforth wanted to get to know her better too, his smile had seemed to waver as her boss told her she could leave.
Part of her had wished that Danforth had invited her to drink with him, but she guessed that was a little too optamistic. She grabbed her overshirt and headed for the door of the pub.
She turned before she got to the door "Bye" she called.

Danforth smiled and waved to Jessai as she headed out the door. As the door closed behind her he clenched his fist. He threw caution to the wind, downed his drink and ran out after her, thinking how foolish he would look if she declined his offer to walk her home. He knew there was more to this girl than was immediately obvious. Something about her had caught his interest and besides, he needed someone to help him get to know this new place. He pulled his fingerless gloves tighter, opened the door and called out to her as he ran to catch up.

Jessai spun around. Danforth had called her name. She presumed she had forgotten something, and pulling her shirt tighter around her, she headed back towards the Swan and Staff. "Did i forget something?" She asked, shivering slightly, and looking puzzled. It was a cold night, and the sky was clear, making it a bitter cold. She rubbed her arms, in an attempt to warm herself up.
Danforth as smiling and Jessai was slightly confused as to what was going on. She was a fair way from the inn in Swncrest, and was considering staying in Arinesse tonight. It was too cold to walk all that way tonight.

"No" Danforth replied "I was just wondering if you needed somone to walk you home?" He noticed she was shivering and he removed his jacket and handed it to her "You look cold" he said "I have naturally thick skin, I don't need it". He smiled again. This was a new sensation for Danforth: he had known this girl for about five minutes and while in her company he had already smiled more than he had over the past week.

Jessai had never in her life been asked if she needed someone to walk her home. Men were a new experience to her, as she had never had a chance to get to know any. "I would be very happy if you walked me home" Jessai blushed. She took his jacket, thanking him graciously. "Thankyou Danforth" She smiled.
Now that she was warm, she didnt feel much like heading straight back to the inn. "Do you feel like a walk?" She asked "I could show you some of Arinesse? It's lovely at night" Once again she blushled shyly and waited for his reply.

"I'd love to go for a walk" replied Danforth, smiling once again. This kind of communication went strongly against his usual nature, but it did not feel odd to him. He had never been truly open with anyone, but Jessai seemed to be someone he could make an exception for. It wasn't that Danforth couldn't get on with people, he just chose to keep himself to himself. He pulled his shirt tighter around him and followed Jessai into the night, thinking that perhaps this place could herald a new start for him. *** Danforth entered the Swan and Staff, feeling as though if he was going to explore this town, he may as well do it drunk. He sat at the bar, drinking pint after pint, before finally deciding he was drunk enough to go for a wander. He managed to locate the door and stumbled through it, almost knocking into a large man with a beard. Danforth glared at him as he walked onwards, but this was mostly because he couldn't see properly and could barely make out his general shape.

"Ahhh Jessai" said the landlord as Jessai turned up for work. "Sorry Lokai, i know im late but there was-" "No no no" replied her boss. "Your new friend was in here not long ago, he seemed drunk...." Jessai ralised that she mean Danforth. She hoped he wasnt getting into trouble. Lokai instructed jessai to go and find him, to make sure he was safe.
Jessai wasn't too sure where to look for Danforth, ater all she didnt know his character too well. But luckily she didnt have to look too hard, for he was just outside, in a puddle.

Drakan pushed open the heavy oak doors and held one aside for Carmen. "Ladies first" he winked. He led Carmen to a table in the corner and asked her what she would like to order. Then, without hesitation he added "And im paying. No arguments!" he smiled and headed to the bar to order. As he waited for the barmaid to pour their drinks, he looked over to where Carmen sat, she looked much happier now. Her cheeks had turned red with the contrasting warm air of the public house, and she had a faint smile upon her lips. Drakan smiled too.
"There you go!" he said sliding Carmens tankard across the knotty wooden table. He took a sip of his ale and gazed into the fire for a few moments, watching as the flames licked the logs that were there.
