The City Square is the large open area in the centre of Arinesse. The Marble Temple is located at the north end of the square, and an entrance to Rosemoor Park is also located in the Square.
At the centre of the square lies a large water fountain, creating the calming sound of rushing water. Passers by often throw coins into the fountain for good luck.

Laielyn flung herself over a bench by the fountain, carelessly allowing her arm to drape over the edge and into the fountain. Swishing it back and forth and boredly watching the water swill back and forth, she let out a heavy sigh. She was looking forward to starting her new life as a traveller, but she had been travelling all day and now she was tired and grumpy. She jerked her hand from the fountain and put it out to one side, rubbing her horse's flanks. If she felt tired, she knew the day must have been extremely taxing on her horse.
Scraping her hair back off her face and fastening it with a small scrap of ribbon, she sat up and cast her gaze around the Square. She had expected the city to be heaving, bustling with noise, but the Square was relatively quiet. Sighing again, she flung her ehad back and closed her eyes.

Drakan and Scarlet arrived, out fo breath and thirsty in the city square. "lets...call it...a.. draw?" Drakan puffed and then fell flat on his back on the cold cobbles of the square. After a few moments he sat up and took in a large breath of air. "I'm so thirsty!" he complained loudly. "What do you think would happen if i took a drink from the fountain?" he eyed the fountain like a tiger would eye its prey. He looked to Scarlet with a mischevious glint in his eye and wondered what her reaction would be.

Trysten wandered into the City Square and gazed at his surroundings. He had never seen a temple like the one standing at the far end of the square. He tried to get his bearings and figure out where exactly to go next. There were people walking through the square and they all seemed to know where they were headed. Trysten felt a little jealous. Out of the corner of his eye he noticed two elves near the fountain. One was sitting on the ground. He smiled to himself as he watched them, and then turned around to look for his next destination.

Laielyn jerked her head up as two rather noisy people ran full-pelt into the city square. Grinning impishly, she listened to the man talk about drinking from the fountain - somethng which would be interesting to watch, and pass the time at least.
"Good morning," She smiled broadly, leaning over to the couple and introducing herself. "I'm Laielyn. Just curious as to what's going to happen when you drink that water." She added with a wink.
The elf was quite content to chatter light-heartedly, finding that such a thing could easily turn hours into minutes. As she faced the two mishcief-makers, she suddenly caught a glimpse of a third figure standing nearby. He seemed much quieter than these two. Tall and dark-haired, he seemed to stop and contemplate the scene before turning around to leave. Curiosity aroused, the elf was tempted to call out after him. But she would always have time to track him down later; now she wanted to watch what was happening here.

Scarlet sat on the edge of the fountain, trying to regain control of her erratic breathing. Running all the way from the stables to the city, had left her exhausted. She lay down on her back, and stretched out along the fountain seat, spreading her hair out behind her like a fan as she was to hot to have it around her face. She moved her knees up, so Drakan could sit beside her, then watched him eyeing the water.
"Well, I don't think it would kill you..." she replied mockingly, then sat up and let her hand trail through the water. A reflection from the other side caught her attention, where a tall, dark-haired man stood. She watched his reflection in the water, aware that he was looking in their direction...
She spun around hearing a voice she didn't recognise, as a fair haired girl introduced herself behind them. "Scarlet," she replied, with a curious smile. Pulling her hand out of the water, she then offered Laielyn the dry one. "And that's Drakan..." she added, watching as Drakan leant precariously over the fountain. She felt sorely tempted to push him, but managed to resist.
"Go on then Drakan, we're waiting..." she said, raising one eyebrow and exchanging a grin with Laielyn. She didn't doubt that he would go through with it, even in the short time she had known him, she knew he would relish the chance to perform in front of an audience.
Out of the corner of her eye, she watched the stranger turn around, but her attention was soon turned back to Drakan. Life was certainly never dull when he was around...

Drakan was pleased to have the attention of two beautiful girls and winked at the newcomer. He, unlike the other two, did not notice the dark haired man who was watching them for a few moments. "OK," he said to the girls, "Here goes..." He plunged his head deep into the waterand took a gulp. However the fact that the water would travel up his nose completely escaped him, and as he spluttered and gulped for air, he fell over the side of the fountain and ended up sitting in it, soaking wet. No!he yelled in his head Not in front of both of them!. If Drakan had felt embarrassed at waking up in a stable, this was a new emotion. Red faced and dripping, he lifted himself from the cold water and climbed over the side. "Well, at least i'm not so hot now!" he grinned at the two girls. He hoped they wouldnt think any less of him after his 'accident'-but if they did then they weren't worth having as friends. He looked at Scarlet sitting beside him, completely dry and seized the oppurtunity. He leant onto her and put his arms round her in a hugging fashion. Now she was wet too. Realising this may have been a bit forward, he pulled away suddenly and looked down to his feet in hiis usual fashion...

Laielyn shook Scarlet's hand, and then burst into helpless laughter as Drakan spluttered and coughed beneath the water. Drawing back slightly as droplets of water erupted from his form as he emerged from the water, she smiled mischievously. "Not so hot, but rather wetter..." She commented dryly, glancing sideways at Scarlet.
She stepped to one side as Drakan flung his arms around Scarlet, silently assessing the situation. These two were obviously very close. She smiled to herself, twisting her hair around her finger in the slightly awkward pause that followed when Drakan so quickly pulled away again. The sun was very hot, and she was beginning to feel like something of a third wheel. She looked up to where the stranger had previously been standing, and saw that he had already gone. Sighing, she broke into the silence.
"It's been lovely to meet you two," She said cheerily, "But I have to find a place to stay, and drop my horse off in the stables. Maybe I'll see you around?"
Leaping onto Eryn's back, she cantered off down the streets, waving back at the couple as she went.

"Sure will" Drakan replied happily, despite his sodden state. "I'm the stable master so feel free to pop in any time for a chat or anything else" He grinned cheekily and hoped he hadnt made her feel awkward with his slightly unexpected hug. He turned to Scarlet to see if he could understand how she felt about the situation.

Scarlet laughed as Drakan fell into the water, but this soon turned to a scream when Drakan lurched out of the water and wrapped his arms around her. The scream was partly out of surprise and partly out of how cold and wet she was. As Drakan pulled away embarassed she did nothing to stop him, but instead wrung out her hair and sodden clothes over the fountain, only managing a small smile. A small awkward pause ensued, broken by Laielyn announcing she was leaving. "Wait!" Scarlet called, but it was too late. She leapt onto her horses back and rode away leaving Scarlet and Drakan alone.
"I..I... ought to go to..." Scarlet babbled, then got to her feet quickly and hurried into the crowd, feeling awkward and needing to be alone to mull things over.

Drakan could already tell that it had been a bad idea to hug Scarlet. He hadnt done it because he had feelings for her but merely because she had laughed at him. It was a spur of the moment thing and he wished it hadnt happned. He sat and watched as she ran off. Standing up he took off his shirt and wrung it out. He shook his head sending most of the water flying and leaving his hair rather messy. Throwing his shirt over his shoulder he quietly and slowly left the city square. The sights no longer semed as beautiful because he had no one to share them with. He decided to head back to the stables to get Arkis and then take him for a long ride.

Post by Crythis on Jul 29, 2006 15:59:30 GMT
It had been a long full day, and Crythis had managed to wear himself out exploring the town. This city was larger than he thought, and the prospect of having a future here was quite dizzying. It definitely had more potential than... (his mind fogged for a second) than whatever it was he had done before he got washed up here. He sat on a stone bench near the fountain and listened to the soft sound of falling water. Night had fallen, and the square was graced by the presence only of an occasional person on their way home. The square was definitely calming, and Crythis decided his plans could wait until tomorrow. He lay back and relaxed in the warm night air, absently tossing a coin into the fountain. He definitely would need the luck tomorrow.

Meredith entered the city square, but she wasn't afraid, dark as it was. Reminding herself that she was trying to find a way back to the inn, she walked on, searching for anyone who would still be here. She sighed, beginning to believe it would be hopeless to find the inn at the dead of night. She shouldn't have stayed at the park for so long.
Suddenly, she watched a blond man walk to the fountain and sit down on a bench nearby. He appeared relaxed, and Meredith was certain that he could tell her where the inn was. Remembering her manners, she asked, "Excuse me, good sir. Would you happen to know where the inn is? I've lost my way." She smiled, "I'm new to the city. I was invited here by my brother, who's gone on army duty. He'll be gone a month, so I'll be staying a month at the inn."
She looked over the young man, "Are you a newcomer too or a citizen?"

Drakan entered the city square and walked over to the fountain where he had been with Scarlet and another elf the day before. Sitting in the same place were a blonde man and a girl. Drakan walked over and introduced himself "Hello, I'm Drakan Thrice" he said offering his hand to the man and winking cheekily at the girl. He thought it would have been rude to ask straight away if they had seen Scarlet and so decided to strike up a short conversation first.

Meredith smiled and flushed slightly at his wink, but remembered that she was a priestess and shouldn't fall for stuff like that. "I'm Meredith," she replied, good-heartedly. "I'm trying to find my way to the inn."
She dipped her hand into the water and smiled at its feel. Oh, Water Goddess. How well it feels to have your blessing, Meredith thought silently. "Hi, Drakan. Are you lost too? Or are you a citizen to this large maze of a city?"
