Drakan had spent almost a week in his hut and the stables, he had been too busy sorting out what he would take to the palace, and what he would leave in his hut. Eventually he had decided to leave most things behind. The stables had also been busy, what with all the cleaning out he and Nelra had been doing. He felt he was due a break and slowly he wandered into the city.
He was on his way to a tavern for a drink. As he passed through the square, he saw a red head on the opposite side of the fountain, illuminated by moonlight. It didnt take long for him to realise who it was, or that she was crying. Rushing to her side, he hugged her tight in his arms and kissed the top of her head. What could have upset her so much he asked himself. "Whats wrong?"

Carmen was greatly comforted by Draken. She pushed her hair away from her tear stained face. "I was...I was..." She wasn't sure she should lie to Draken or not. Tell him, came Nexa's wise voice into her head. It will make you feel worse if you don't. Carmen looked into Draken's eyes and said. "I was just remembering something that had happened to me," She sat back down at the side of the fountain again. "Before I came to Erivale," She then dug into her memories and told Draken her story....
Carmen was in the old butchers shop. Her father had sent there to comfort the old man, because he'd just lost his wife from a terrible cold. Then she heard the door behind her and saw the old man standing in the doorway. "Hello sir. I cleaned that cow me-" She was cut off when the man threw a beer bottle at her, but luckily she ducked in time. "SHUT UP!!" He yelled at her. "My wife is dead! Meat means nothing to me,"
Then he looked at Carmen crouched on the floor and gave her a funny look. "You're a pretty girl," He said to her. Carmen began crying because she was so scared. The Old man put his hand on Carmen's face and she felt a cutting knife on the floor behind her. As the old man's hand moved down Carmen stabbed him in the shoulder with the knife, causing him to fall to the floor. Then quickly she ran out the door, running into Arkham, the Butcher's son, her fiance. "What happened? Where's my father?" Carmen ran from him down the streets in the rain, hearing Arkham's cries from the Butcher shop. "She killed him!"
By the time she was finished telling her story, Carmen was sobbing again. Then she stood up and buried her face in Draken's shoulder.

As Carmen sibbed into his shirt, Drakan wasnt sure what to say. The fact that she had killed someone didn't bother him too much. He had seen war. Seen death. To him it was black and white, he tried to hurt her, she defended herself.
What bothered Drakan was the other detail she had forgoten to mention. She was engaged? Drakan continued to stroke her hair as he said "You...you were to be married?" His voice was shaky and he felt betrayed. His arms fell from her and he stood up from the bench. "You never mentioned it before. How long ago was it?" He was sure it can't have been too long, she had only been in Erivale a month or two.

Carmen looked up at Draken and saw him back away. "It was a year ago. Since then I've been running," Then she realized why he was backing away. "No, Draken, It's not like that." She walked to wards him and took his hands. "Arkham was my best friend, then he told me he loved me. I didn't truly love him back and I ran from him. Then his father came to my house and my dad agreed to have me married to him, even though it was completely against my will."
Carmen put her hand on Draken's face. "I feel more for you than I ever did for him, Draken," This was the complete truth, Carmen had never liked Arkham, but they'd been good friends. His father was so cruel though, the thought of him despised Carmen. "I'm sorry for not telling you Draken. I didn't think it mattered, it was in the past." She walked away from Draken slowly awaiting his reaction.

Drakan listened as carmen explained. He did understand really, he was just being sensitive. He nodded slowly as she spoke and looked into Carmens eyes. "Dont worry" he smiled. "I understand". He pulled her close and hugged her tight. "Now i was on my way to have a drink, care to join me? I can't go into the Fair Dragon im afraid... So it will have to be the Swan and Staff?" He laughed as he remembered the trouble he had got into involving the inn. "so coming?" He called beginning to walk away.

Carmen was really glad for Draken's company. What would I have done if he hadn't come, Carmen pondered. Then she took another look in the fountain and realized she was that girl in her reflection and she was the one with the successful life that was full of promise. Then she looked away and turned to Draken.
Carmen smiled up at Draken and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "A drink is exactly what I need," She said with confidence. Then she tied her hair back with a ribbon and brushed a hair out of Draken's eye. She almost longed to in for an actual kiss, but wasn't sure if it was what he wanted, so she waited for him to lead the way to the Swan and Staff Public House.

It was a bright morning and the square was empty. I was ready to spring to life any moment. The shopkeepers were just reaching their shops and the skies were still quite dark.
Matthew Sparkle walked into the square, going for a nice morning walk. Behind him a silver dragon followed, nipping at flies along the way.
Matt had heard that most dragons at thier early stages of life would go off hunting alone and come back in the night, but Steel had been following everywhere. Once he'd learned Matt's language he could hardly stop telling him all about Dragon History and a few flying tecniques he'd learned from Garnet. Matt enjoyed talking with him though, he basically was never alone and always had company and that was the way he liked it.
At the moment Steel was being quiet because he wanted to watch the square come to life. Matt sat by the fountain in the middle of the square and Steel flew to his shoulder. Can we go to Faydell? He asked. Matt didn't look at him, but stared at a man opening his flower shop. Why? What is so interesting in Faydell? Steel snorted and a few sparks shot out. Matt brushed them quickly off his jacket and waited for the dragons response. Because I've never been out of the city and Faydell seems like fun. Matt shook his head, Maybe, he replied and continued watching people enter the square.
