As Drakan entred his stable the young girl from the city squarel left without even seeming to notice him. He guessed she must have left her horse inside and so he went in to check. He made a mental note to find the girl later to take her details for his brand new log book. He made sure the horse had fresh food and water and went over to Arkis' stable. "Hey there boy" he said patting his muzzle. Drakan lead him out of the stable and climbed onto his back, without a saddle. He prefferred to ride this way. At first Arkis was quite wild as Drakan rode him, but the soft clicking noise Drakan could use son calmed him down. The special bond he had had with his previous horse was not there yet, but Drakan hoped it would be soon. *** When Drakan returned from the stables all the horses were silent. Arkis was tired, and Drakan immediately put him into his stall. It was far too late to go and find a room elsewhere, so he decided it would be another night in the straw tonight. At least there was no chance of Scarlet finiding him in the morning. He curled up, pulling the straw close around him. Within minutes he was deep in slumber after first making a vow to find Scarlet the next day. *** When Drakan awoke, he was pleased to find no young girls standing over him. He brushed his hair out of his eyes and stretched. standing up he brushed the straw off of his clothes and looked down at himself. He badly needed some new clean clothes. He decided to head into town later that day to see if he could find some, but first-Scarlet. Only problem was-whjere to look? *** Drakan arrived back, pleased that he had sorted all his differences with Scarlet. He looked into the stables and checked that all the horses had food and water. He noticed that Ember, Scarlets horse, had a very messy stall, and set about cleaning it out. Ember didnt take too kindly to Drakan destroying her home and continuously nudged at him and stamped her feet. After almost being knocked over for a third time he shouted "Scarlet i wish your horse could be controlled!"

* * *
Scarlet ran into the stables, straight after her training session, her face carrying the expression of extreme worry. She reached Ember's stable and threw her arms around the horses neck, glad to see that she was alright. After the fall in her training session, and the Earl telling Scarlet that Ember was getting old, a lot of things had been put into perspective. Scarlet settled down in the hay with Ember, talking out loud to her.
"You are getting old aren't you girl." Scarlet said softley, watching Ember nibbling hay. The thought of not having Ember, who had been her contant companion since she was young, was not worth thinking about. She sat in the hay, eyes half closed until Ember's soft brown nose nudged Scarlet and she whinnyed loudly in her ear.
"What?" replied Scarlet, looking bemused. Ember took a mouthful of Scarlet's hair and playfully tugged it, pulling Scarlet towards the stable door. Scarlet laughed. "Do you think I should apply to be a Dragonrider yet?" she asked. In truth, it was the only thing (second to Ember) that she had thought about since leaving the grounds. "I mean, I've only just finished training in the cavalry!"
Ember stared at her.
"O.K then, I will! Infact, I'll go right now." she kissed Ember lightly on the nose and made a mental note to buy her some apples from the city centre.

Drakan entered the stables just as Scarlet was leaving. She didnt look very happy and decided not to invade her privacy and instead just smiled as they passed. If she wants to tell me whats going on, she knows she can he thought to himself. when he entered the stables he realised just how few horses he had in there. He refilled their food and water and sighed. It was raining outside and he would have liked someone to talk to to cheer him up. He would have gone to look for Scarlet but he knew she was upset and didnt want to bother her. "Maybe someone will come in soon" he said patting Arkis, his own horse, and he sat down in the hay beside him.

Carmen walked into the stables with her horse, Ginger. "I know you don't like stables, but You'll have to stay somewhere in the city." She wasn't sure if she would run into Draken or not. She put Ginger in an empty stall. "There girl, not that bad." She scratched behind Ginger's ear, and giggled. She didn;t notice Draken was even there, yet.

Drakan stood up. Carmen had placed Ginger in the stall beside Arkis, where Drakan had been sitting. NOw as he leant on the chest high fence that seperated the two stalls, he could see Carmen Jewels bright head bobbing away as she chattered to her horse. Drakan smiled. There was something almost entrancing about this girl. He wished he hadnt made such a fuss about the apple she stole now. But he knew that his temper was easily fired up.
"Hello Ginger" Drakan said suddenly. "Oh and Carmen too! What a lovely surprise!" He grinned in his usual cheeky fashion.
He was joined at the fence not long after by his horse Arkis, who then proceeded to sniffing Carmens hair.

Carmen jumped a little at Draken's appearence. She stroked his horse that was sniffing her red hair, it wasn't in a braid today, she was just letting it hang down. She smiled at his cheek. "Hello Draken." She said, respectfully. "It's nice meeting you here." Even though she knew he was the stable master. "I was about to go to the Inn and get a room, because I haven't anywhere to stay. Can Ginger stay here? Do I have to pay or something?" She knew it woulld be all the money she had, but she would have too.

Matthew walked into the stables, wondering if they really were stables. "Umm.." He said, kind of shyly. "Is this where you keep horses?" He saw a beautiful girl, with long red hair. She can't be the stable master. Then He saw a fairly hansome man there too. He must be the stable master. "I need to keep my horses here," He said to the man.

Drakan smiled at Carmen as she patted Arkis. She obviously liked horses. "This is Arkis" he told her. "Yours horse is welcome to stay here too" He told her how much it would cost her, but then remembered that she probably didnt have much money as she had stolen an apple before. "You can pay when you take Ginger out" He smiled. He didnt want to make it too obvious that he was making an exception for her, but also didnt want to embarrass her.
He then turned round as a young man came into the stables. "Hey" he smiled "Im Drakan, Stablemaster. You can keep your horse in this stable if you like?" He led the boy into a stall a few doors away from Ginger and Carmen. He explained the fee to the boy and asked if he was new to Erivale.

Carmen smiled at how thoughtful Draken was. She noticed that the other boy, seemed about her age and he was kind of cute. Shecontinued to stroke Ginger and said to Arkis. "I guess I shouldn't talk to Draken while he's working, huh?" He nickered, and Carmen giggled. She stopped scratching Ginger, and started scratching him. She scratched him behind his ears like she did to Ginger. He seemed to like it, so she continued.

Matt smiled at the stablemaster's friendlyness. He walked outside, and brought in Rocky and Patch. He put them in stalls next to each other, and told The man why he was in the city. "Well. Me and my sister came to be Dragon Riders in the Sovreigns's army." He wondered what it would be like, having a stronger bond with someone other than his sister. He knew about dragons from what his "father" told him.
"You know Mattie," his father said. "A dragon is not a regular beast. It is a magiestic creature, that is born with the wisdom of many years. When a dragon hatches for you, it creates a special link between itself and the rider. A stronger link than anyone can have with another person, or another animal." He stroked his gray beard and his violet eyes sparkled. "An even stronger bond than you will ever have with Elizabeth,"
Matt remembered how shocked he had been. "By the way," He said politly, "My name's Matthew" He held out his hand in greeting.

"Drakan" Drakan said shaking Matthews hand. "Feel free to come and take Patch and Rocky as you wish, but leave me a note if im not here? Just so I know that they havent escaped!"
It seemed to Drakan that alot of newcomers in Erivale wished to be dragon riders, he himself didnt quite understand the attraction. So far all his encounter with dragons had brought him was pain. He looked down at his hand, which was still swollen after Meral [Scarlet's dragon] had decided it looked like food.
"Well i'd better be getting back to work" he said grinning. "I'm sure I'll see you around!" With that he went back into a stall and began clearing up the dirty straw.

Nelra entered the stables, leading her jet black mare, Eclipse. She'd been keeping her horse behind the inn for the past little while, but decided that since she had to come to the stables anyway, now was as good a time as any to get her horse settled. She led Eclipse into the first empty stall and dumped her armload of the mare's tack in the corner of the stall. She took off her horses's bridle and lead line and threw that onto the pile as well.
"Now, no nibbling on that," she said to Eclipse, pointing at the pile of tack. "It's in bad enough shape already without you helping it along. Now, time to find the stablemaster...."
She looked around the building and spotted a man cleaning out one of the stalls. Well, that must be him she thought to herself and headed over. She headed over and stopped just outside the stall door.
"Hello!" she said cheerfully. "I'm Nelra. I'm the new stablehand."

Drakan wheeled around and saw a young elf standing behind him. He was sure he had seen her before. "Im Drakan" he smiled and held out his hand. "Theres not much to explain really! Just the basic chores, cleaning out, feeding and watering the horses." He shrugged "I just generally keep an eye on all of the horses and do each job as i see a need to." He pointed to a nearby stall. "That one there has just had fresh hay put in it...If you wanted to put your horse there? I don't really have anywhere for you to leave your tack at the moment, the back room is half way through being sorted! But i could put a few nails up in the stall if you like?" Drakan tried to be as helpful as he could towards this newcomer. She was female, and Drakan liked girls. He grinned.

Nelra smiled and shoke Drakan's hand. He looked like someone she might have seen before, but she wasn't sure, so she didn't let it bother her. After he had finished explaining what kind of stuff was done here she nodded. "Sounds easy enough. And putting some nails up in the stall isn't a very good idea. Eclipse has a habit of chewing on her tack when she thinks no one is looking..."
She went and moved her mare into the stall Drakan had indicated. She picked up her pile of tack and drapped it over the stall door. "Now, if I catch you chewing on this, you won't get any treats for a week." She turned back to Drakan. "Is there anything I can do to help right now?"

Carmen sat down in Ginger's stall. "I think that Draken has forgotten me," She said to Ginger and Arkis. "Should I leave? Or wait for him to finish talking to his "stable hand"," She didn't know why, but she felt a small pang of jelousy rising in her. Wait a minute, she thoguht. I don't like like Draken, do I? She sat there in the hay, pondering her thoughts, and glancing at the horses.
